What is an e-Tin Certificate?
An E-tin certificate is an identification for the taxpayers of Bangladesh. As a responsible citizen of Bangladesh, one must pay tax annually if they exceed a certain yearly income determined by the government.
Previously, there was a TIN certificate for taxpayers; however, to digitalize everything, the government decided to upgrade the TIN certificate into the e-Tin certificate. It is mandatory to have an e-Tin certificate for any taxpayer in Bangladesh and e-tin registration process in Bangladesh is easy to proceed through both offline and online.
Why Do You Need an e-Tin Certificate?
Even though it obligatory for Bangladeshi citizens who have more than the required annual income, many wonder what the need for e-tin is? Is it any use other than having an identifying document?
Yes, it is important to have an e-tin if you have a gross income that is enough for you to become eligible for paying taxes.
• It proves that you are a responsible citizen of the country and aware of the importance of taxes.
• It validates your income source.
• As a business owner, e-tin ensures that you follow government rules and regulations and abide by them.
• You will need an e-tin certificate if you want to open a bank account, take a loan, start DPS, etc.
• If you want to make an expensive purchase, like buying a car, apartment, shops, etc., you have to provide legal documents, including an e-tin certificate.
• You will need an e-tin certificate to get a trade license.
Documents You Need for e-Tin Certificate
Several documents you need in hand before you start applying for the e-tin certificate. Keeping them ready beforehand will save a lot of time while applying.
The documents that you will need are,
1. Passport size photograph (hardcopy for manual application, softcopy for electronic application)
2. Post-Code of Current Address
3. Post-Code of Permanent Address
4. National ID/ Passport Number
5. Incorporation no/Registration Number (if applicable)
6. Name and TIN of:
Partners (In case of a firm)
Business (In the case of a sole proprietorship)
Sponsor Directors (In case of a company)
Process of Applying for e-Tin Certificate
Once you start applying online for your e-tin certificate, you will need to input some information and proceed with each step. We have discussed all the steps and information you will need to complete the application procedure.
Pre-Process 1: Registration
Before you start filling up your application form for an e-tin certificate, you need an account on the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
In order to do so, you need to visit e-Tin Registration. You will see a form, and you need to fill it up.
Input a unique User ID. If your given ID matches with someone else's, then you have to try again with a unique one. The ID has to be a minimum of 8 characters.
Provide a Password having at least 4 characters. Remember this password or write it down securely, as you will need it later.
You have to retype your password. It must match with the previous password.
Choose a security question among the given questions.
Then you have to type the answer to that question. You should remember it too, as in case you forget the password, you will need to answer the security question.
Next, select a country, which will be Bangladesh.
Then, type your mobile number. Use a valid one as you will get a confirmation in that number.
Input your email address.
Lastly, solve the captcha code and type the result.
Finally, press the Register button.
Pre-Process 2: Log-In to Your Account
In completion of the previous steps, you will receive a confirmation message on your mobile number. You will be sent an activation code. You have to type the activation code on the website where they ask for it. After entering, press activate.
Once you have completed the registration, you can log in to your account using the User ID and password. You have to do that by clicking on the Log-In tab and inputting User ID and Password.
Now that you are logged into your account, now you can proceed into the actual e-tin application process.
Main Process: E-Tin Registration
You will be landed on your account's home page, and at the bottom, you will find an option for new registration or re-registration for an e-tin certificate. Click on the "Click here" button to proceed.
Now you will find yourself in the form filling up process. You have to input some information to complete the procedure. You will find two pages in the form, and you have to accurately fill every field. The information you will need is the following.

After filling up both the pages, you should click "Go to Next," and it will take you to your application's preview.
Carefully check if there is any mistake in the information. After this process, you will not be able to change your information.
Once you are sure that all the information is accurate and has no mistake, you have to give your consent about the information accuracy by ticking the box on the page. Then click "Submit Application," and once again, you will see a preview of your application, which you can print or save.
On the below of the preview form, you will find a button labeled "View Certificate". Click that you will get your e-tin certificate.
Once you get the e-Tin certificate, additionally, you get three options: print, save, or email. You can perform any of these three according to your need. It is best to save a copy of your e-tin certificate.
