Andy Warhol, born in August 1928 was an illustrator for Glamour magazine in the late 40’s, who then went on to exhibit his artwork at the Hugo Gallery and the Bodley Gallery in New York City; in California.
Soon after became known as the ambassador of a new movement called ‘Pop Art’, who wouldn’t be inspired by this guy? You may know him for his famous Campbell’s Soup illustration, which was something that seemed so simple at the time, and was transformed into what the nation now knew as ‘pop art’.
Today, even deceased, he has a rather large following. Many are inspired by his hard work in the 60’s and base their work on similar styles and features he used.
Tysen Knight:
Tysen was hugely inspired by Andy Warhol, with Warhol being the face of pop art itself, Knight greatly looks up to the surrealism and style that Warhol projects onto his canvas.
As you can see in Tysen’s work, he explores a twist on mundane or somewhat regular items, such as children’s characters or religious icons, a sort of dark twist is displayed in each piece, in turn making it more suitable for street art.
Jeff Koons:
Jeff Koons is one of America’s most popular contemporary artists. His vibrant, pop aesthetics follow closely to Warhol’s flair. He’s best known for his oversized sculptures of souvenirs, toys, and ornaments which are bold and bright. Using a range of materials, Koons took his work to New York.
In 2017, Koons teamed up with the luxury brand Louis Vuitton to create a limited edition of bags printed with iconic European paintings. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, among others. He now lives and exhibits his work in New York.
He is most famously known for his balloon animal art, which he takes a twist on the well-loved childhood toy, he creates them as heavy as led, and metallic.
Damien Hirst:
Damien Hirst is a British Concept artist known for his eyebrow-raising take on beauty and found-art objects and scenery. As a student at Goldsmiths College in London, he began to recognize the mastermind behind the Warhol industry, who became a massive inspiration to his ongoing work.
His projects consist of patterned bursts of vibrant color, following Warhol’s style of surrealism, Damien uses both geometric abstract skills and gestural abstract art to have his own take on his work.
Currently, living in London, England, you can find his work in places such as the Tate Gallery in London, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami.
