3 Steps to Healthy Eating Despite Food Allergies

Eating healthy may or may not be a top priority on your list, but it’s one great way to keep your energy levels up during the day and stay healthy overall. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is very important, which is why all diet guidelines recommend getting a daily dose of fresh fruits and vegetables. The more the better, but unfortunately most people opt for a fairly processed meal that may have little to no vegetable content. Below, we’ll list a few simple tips to get you on the right track toward eating healthier.

If you work outside of the home, it’s important to pack a lunch if you want to stay on the healthy diet track. Otherwise, it can be tempting to eat out or snack on some unhealthy alternatives in the break room (doughnuts, candy, etc). If you have an arsenal of your favorite healthy snacks and a well-balanced lunch, it will be less tempting to go the other route.

Dip your vegetables

If you are having a hard time including raw vegetables in your diet, try dipping them in a healthy salad dressing. This is a great tip for kids, too. Sliced vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli, etc) are also portable snacks along with a container of your favorite dressing.

Snack

Most people may view snacking as bad, but it’s not if you are truly hungry and need a quick boost. The trick is eating a healthy snack, like a bag of granola (mixed nuts and fruits). You can also have a small snack of yogurt and nuts, perhaps topped with shredded coconut for extra fiber. Think outside of the box and try to combine some of your favorite healthy foods. Often, people just simply overlook the simple (sliced apple and nut butter) in favor of a packaged food.

When transitioning to a healthier diet, you may have some regrets and miss certain dishes. More than likely, there are healthier versions of those meals out there. You might be able to figure it out yourself just by playing with the recipe or you can search online for an alternative recipe for your favorite dish. Try not to limit yourself too much so that you continue to feel nourished but not deprived.

Diet changes can be hard on the body and the mind, so take it easy and eat your favorite (healthy) foods. To support your energy and stamina, try a natural energy drink. Some have ingredients to support the immune system and promote a long-term increase in energy levels.
