The year 2017 gave us many female inspiring figures like Reshma Shetty (co-founder at Ginkgo Bioworks Inc.), Aliana Percival (Chief Executive Officer of Women Who Code) and Carolyn Rodz (founder of Circular Board). All of these examples shared some common traits like fearless approach, persistence, commitment, and promising future plans. Here are some of the names to look for this year
1. Jessica Mathews:
Jessica Mathews is the founder of Uncharted Power, an award-winning power company. The company makes use of kinetic energy solutions to power micro-grids. Jessica invented a soccer ball that generates energy to deliver electric light to the tiny homes. She named it “Soccket”. For this, she has also raised $7 million which was a record high for a black woman. She was included in the list of “10 Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs” by Fortune Magazine.
2. Maia Heymann:
Maia Heymann launched BancBoston Ventures where she led the investment committee. Later on, she founded her venture capital firm “Converge” in June 1998. It provides venture capital and business building experience to its clients. They also assist their clients to smoothly execute the process of raising money for successive rounds and to better collaborate with other investors.
3. Lisa Curtis:
Lisa Curtis started her project Kuli Kuli primarily to grow more moringa in Niger to fulfill the feed the poor people of Niger. In the beginning, the idea didn’t get much success because not many people in Niger liked to eat moringa but they were interested in farming it because it requires sandy soil and relatively less amount of water. On this day, Kuli Kuli is supporting around 1000 farmers in Ghana, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Lisa’s team is trying to find ways to introduce moringa into the Western diet.
4. Sarah Robb O’Hagan:
Sarah Robb O’Hagan is the CEO of Flywheel, an America’s indoor cycling brand. Prior to this, she served as the global president Gatorade, a multi-billion dollar company Gatorade where she contributed heavily in the repositioning and turnaround of the business. She has also worked on the leadership positions at Nike and Virgin Atlantic Airways. At the beginning of her career, she was fired from Virgin and shortly after, she was fired from Atari. Despite back to back failures, Sarah didn’t lose hope and worked really hard to join Gatorade as the president.
5. Rianna Levy:
Rianna Levy is a multi-faceted and versatile person who has made her name in various fields. She is a singer, songwriter, human rights activist, politician, and musician. She is also a blogger and the founder of Rianna Levy Production LLC, a music production company. Her first collection as a fashion designer is also a success. Today, she is inspiring many people to dream big and never give up on their goals no matter how difficult the journey becomes. She stated once, “do not afraid to dream big, dream big, think big, and know that anything is possible if you put a hard work!”
