5 Steps to Planning the Perfect Vacation

Let’s face it, after all the hard work we have put in this year, we all deserve a relaxing retreat!

When you finally arrive at your destination, the fun and relaxation truly begin.

However, getting every detail right in advance of your trip is the hard part. Sometimes planning the perfect vacation can be very daunting.

By taking the right steps, you can make planning your next special vacation a breeze!

Follow the simple steps below as you plan your next vacation, and you are sure to have the time of your life—without all the stress and worry!

1. Do your research!

The first step in planning a vacation should be doing your research.

Create a list of all the exotic destinations that are on your bucket list. Do you dream of spending time relaxing under the sun on a gorgeous beach? Or do you prefer snowy, mountainous destinations where you can ski your worries away?

Begin researching different places to stay within the destinations of your choice. You will want to investigate flights, lodging, food, and things to do!

2. Decide who you want to invite (if anyone!)

If you are looking to travel solo, then you can skip this step!

If not, you will want to start thinking about who you want to travel with. Is it your significant other? Your best friend? A large group of friends? A smaller group of close friends? Your family?

You want to make sure that whoever you decide to embark on your vacation with is trustworthy and will be willing to travel to your destination of choice.

You may also want to discuss who will pay for what during the trip. This will come in handy in the next step!

3. Create a budget for yourself.

One of the most stressful parts of planning a trip is dealing with the money and budgeting. You’ll be faced with a lot of questions upfront before you leave for the trip, like how much to spend on your transportation and lodging.

Navigating flight prices, hotel prices, car rentals, vacation home rental costs, and more can be quite tricky. Then, when you arrive at your destination you will have to make more decisions about purchasing food, beverages, entertainment, taxi fares, and more.

Try creating a spreadsheet to build a well-organized budget that you can rely on. First, decide how much you would like to spend in total on your vacation. Then, begin listing all the things you will have to spend money on during your trip.

If you are going to be traveling with other people who will also be contributing money, you should include how much they will pay here.

You can continue building on your budget as you continue to plan and refer back to it throughout your stay. Having all the funds sorted out in advance will make your trip much less stressful, both leading up to the vacation and during your stay!

4. Make an itinerary

Now that you have researched your destination and planned out the monetary logistics, you can begin to create the perfect itinerary!

Get together with your travel companion(s) if you have any and discuss what activities you would like to do on your vacation.

You should think about where you will want to eat dinner, what shows you will want to see, any landmarks you may want to tour, and what beaches or resorts are calling your name!

Begin to plan out day-by-day what you will do each day. It will be even more helpful if you break each day down into hours and plan out how long you will spend at each attraction.

Make sure you write down your itinerary somewhere that you will be able to bring with you on your travels! I recommend writing it down in your phone’s notes section or typing it out and printing it out to bring along with you.

5. Pre-book attractions and make reservations

The final step in planning the perfect vacation is to pre-book any attractions that allow you to do so. You should also make reservations for the restaurants you want to eat at in advance.

Your future self will thank you when you do not have to worry about what you are going to do next, if you will be able to get a table at that busy restaurant, or if that tour you really wanted to go on was already sold out for the day.

When making your reservations, be sure to ask the restaurants and attractions if there will be a fee should you cancel. This is something you will want to be aware of should your plans change!

Conclusion

When it comes to planning the perfect vacation, the key is really doing well-executed research and deciding on what you want to do in advance.

Putting those extra hours of work in before heading out on a trip will really pay off, and you are sure to be glad that you did!
