A Basic Guide for NYC SST Courses

SST cards are given to construction workers if they happen to complete 40 hours of New York City construction site safety training or NYC SST courses. But according to the local news, the deadline of March 1 has been set by the New York City Departments of Building or DOB for all New York construction workers to obtain the NYC SST cards.

According to the current rules and regulations, site safety training construction site workers in New York should have had mandatory 30 hours of successful NYC sst courses. Those who have attained the mandatory 30 hours only require additional 10 more hours of site safety training course to receive their SST cards.

What is an SST card?

SST card is also known as Site safety training card is designed to provide information about the different training backgrounds of construction workers in New York City. It is created to showcase a record of the specific training requirements fulfillment about New York City's Local Law 196. A typical SST card is valid for about 5 years.

Who needs the SST cards?

All New York City's construction workers are primarily required to have the SST cards to certify their site safety training as of 2021. This is a green card to allow them to work in any of New York City's construction sites.

SST cards are handed over to both construction and demolition workers based in New York City. Furthermore, construction site supervisors of New York City are also supposed to have the certification of site safety training in the form of SST cards.

Different kinds of NYS SST courses

Limited SST card

To have a limited SST card, construction site workers must have 30 hours of extensive site safety training. Three types of 30 hours of SST training could give you a limited SST card as a worker.

The first one being, OSHA 10 hour course+ 20 hours of Additional training. The 20 hours of the additional training program is further broken into, 8 hours of fall prevention training, 8 hours of chapter 33 site safety manager training, and lastly 4 hours of supported scaffold training.

The second type of 30 hours site safety training involves OSHA 30 hour course. Last but not the least, 100 hours of a training program that has been approved by the New York DOB.

Temporary SST card

As a worker, you have to undergo the mandatory OSHA 10 hour course.

Full SST card

To receive the full SST card, a construction worker has to undergo 40 hours of mandatory site safety training courses. There are three types of training. The first one being OSHA 10 hour courses + 3o hours of additional training, the second being OSHA 30 hour courses+ 10 hours of additional training, and the third one is 100 hours of DOB-approved training program.

Supervisor SST cards are given to supervisors that has 62 hours of mandatory site safety training. This NYC SST course is further broken down in different parts.
