A Close Focus On Cichlids

There are different species of Cichlids in the different lakes around the globe. Many factors are distinguishing one species from the other. For instance, the African Cichlid is distinguishable for its aggressive behavior.

What do people think about Cichlids?

I have had the opportunity to discuss the Cichlids with many inexperienced aquarists and gotten to learn a lot about their perspectives in this regard. They believe that it is a bad idea to keep African Cichlids. I asked them to give their reasons and many thought these fish species were quite mean! I asked them to give me their reasons and they told me that it was because of their aggressive nature.

I think that they are entitled to their own opinions and I believe that with time they will change their perspective. It would be a bad idea to let the aggressive attribute discourage you from keeping the Cichlids. Bear in mind that you could choose to look at their aggressive nature from a new perspective. For instance, it would be better if you instead kept them as pets.

Some outstanding attributes about Cichlids

Vibrant colors and shapes

I'm a fish enthusiast and I also have a great love for nature. The Cichlids are a great gift from nature to us humans and that is considering how beautiful these fish are. They come is wide-ranging colors and also in some outstanding shapes. You need to consider keeping them or at least go watch them sweeping. Their colorful outlook is breathtaking as they propel their way through the water.

The interesting breeding behavior of the Cichlids

I find the breeding behavior of these fish rather fascinating. They are characterized by what many may term a pretty organized parental behavior. The breeding activities are pretty organized. In this regard, I'm talking about the mouthbrooding, cave brooding and the open brooding that I associated with these fish. I keep these fish as pets and these breeding activities take my breath away and make me reflect a lot about nature.

African lakes have a great deal of the Cichlids fish species

You will quite agree with me that the African lakes are rich in the different fish species. However, Cichlids are known to thrive and breed in some particular lakes. These include lakes Malawi, Tanganyika and Victoria. Incredibly, these lakes bear about a thousand different species of these Cichlids.

It is also worth noting that African Cichlids can be distinguished by their aggressive behavior. They are quite territorial and that helps tell them apart from the rest of the species. Research shows that the mature ones fight off the other fish species trying to move into their territories. This is a rather interesting attribute that makes the Cichlids important fish to study.
