A Detailed List of the Different Kinds of Vehicles – and Which is Best for You

One of the biggest questions in the minds of car buyers is what kind of vehicle they should buy. Of course, it's normal to consider this because the type of vehicle you buy will significantly impact your next several years. But you already know that many factors come into play when you’re on the lookout for your next car, and needless to say, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed once you start searching. But as long as you remain focused on your needs and strike a good balance between your needs and your wants, it should be easier to find the ideal vehicle that fits all your requirements. However, it pays to have a good idea of what's out there, so here's a detailed list of the different kinds of vehicles – and which may be best for you.

• Sedans

A sedan is arguably the most common car configuration, and it’s an old, classic design that has stood the test of time. Sedans are useful for various applications, but this can also be to their detriment because they're known for versatility without any exceptional "quality." The largest sedans are the executive sedans, and they're truly comfortable and luxurious. Another variation of the sedan is the hatchback, which offers enhanced practicality and is more economical. On the other hand, the station wagon features an elongated body, so it has more space for seating and the trunk.

• Crossovers or SUVs

Crossovers and SUVs are known for their high rides, and they are immensely popular in the US. One reason for their popularity is that they are highly safe and have loads of space inside the cabin, and they also feature larger cargo space that can accommodate more than its fair share of luggage, sports equipment, pets, and more. They are also highly comfortable and perfect for families, although these vehicles don't offer such a good fuel economy. Nevertheless, they're still a good buy if you have a growing family or like taking long road trips, and even if they're costlier than some sedans, you can always opt for a used model, such as the models from Young Automotive, one of the most trusted used car Utah dealerships.

• Coupes

Coupes are also a variation of the traditional three-box design but with fewer doors. Sometimes, coupes don't have rear seats, either. Sports cars are often classified as coupes, and since the coupe has a sleek and seamless look, it has better performance and aerodynamics than other models. Unfortunately, coupes are also costlier despite their decreased practicality, although they are fun and exciting. Convertibles are another version of the coupe featuring a lowered roof.

• Trucks or vans

The veritable workers and heavy-lifters of the automotive arena, trucks, and vans have great hauling and cargo-loading properties. Vans are used primarily for commercial and business applications, while pickup trucks are tremendously popular all over the country. Pickup trucks boast ruggedness and hardiness, and you can take them anywhere – even places where other vehicle models dare not go. Of course, since they are large and come with high operational costs, they're not so handy in other countries – but with the broad spaces we have over here coupled with relatively low gasoline prices, pickup trucks remain as popular as ever.
