*Knock Knock*
"Who is it?"
"Me? The one you try to hide, people call me as depression"
I moved forward. The already dark room left no patches of light for me to see it. I wondered how it appears to be. Was it dark? Just like my thoughts these days? Or was it simply a mundane version of me. Similar in facial details but gloomy than the one I left long back in the lane?
"Why did you come here?" I asked still trying to detect it. It stood near the darkest corner of my room.
Outside the weather was growing darker. The overcast followed by thunders and heavy rains made the atmosphere scary yet silence persisted within the four walls of my closed room.
"I heard you think more about me in these few days. I know you feel alone and the turmoil of emotions makes you hold the company of tears each day, but you are not ready to let these thoughts escape your inner side.
"How do you know me that well?" I asked walking a bit closer to unmask this new guest who was talking everything that I had in my mind
"I reside within you. Inside the walls that you have been building slowly around you. I know you are scared to let others know of my presence within you, but deep inside you cannot deny the fact that being alone with me is the most soothing feeling you have been loving all this time"
It said. A sigh escaped me while I sat down over the chair next to my table.
"I don't understand why happiness is so tough to meet. Is it that expensive?" I asked, finally I broke the shackles of fear and started conversing with it.
"Maybe ....maybe not. I don't know about it, but how do you take me to be? What do you think about me?"
I paused for a moment and answered with a thought,
" You are something dark, deep and within me.. earlier I denied your existence in me, I thought I wasn't normal to deal with you. I try each day to smile more. The mask that I wear hides the pain of my failures, but at the end of the day when I finally lie down on my bed, you are the only one thing that accompanies me. I don't know when and why did I find a company in you; but when I did I realised how so many people have been your friend all this time. Its the pain of broken things that damages the soul without repairs." I said.
It walked a bit closer to me. I felt its existence right next to me. I tried looking at it. However, the darkness still didn't let me take a peek at it. It held my hand and it felt cold yet soothing.
"The world will continue to ruin you, but you need to know how to be a stone. A stone that doesn't wither easily, something that stays for the longest period of time"
I looked behind and saw it leave. Its shadow disappeared while I slowly wished for another day t end in the melody of melancholy
