The 2021 German elections have made the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Party's nightmare come true. After ruling since 2005 with Angela Merkel, they are now unable to control parliament.
Until now, political lobbies are still happening, because the opposition Social Democratic Party (SPD) managed to win narrowly.
DW Indonesia reported on Wednesday (29/9/2021), Germany is predicted to be in uncertainty for weeks, after the results of the parliamentary elections failed to set a clear direction for the new government.
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor for the centre-left Social Democratic Party, called for the centre-right CDU/CSU Christian Union bloc, led by Armin Laschet, to step aside in opposition after its worst result in national parliamentary elections. The vote share of the two major parties was well below 30 percent, raising questions about the stability of the future government.
Armin Laschet, the CDU's chancellor candidate, continues to reject the idea that the election results give one party a clear mandate. The CDU leader, Angela Merkel's successor, said he still hopes to lead the new government.
Laschet sounded much less confident on Monday (27/09), than he did the day before, when he said his bloc would do "all we can" to form one - and several alliances, hinting at the skepticism it would bring.
New era
Whoever succeeds Angela Merkel as chancellor will lead Germany into a new era. During her 16 years in office, Merkel's reputation was seen not only as a leader of Germany, but also as a European leader. Merkel helped steer the European Union through a series of financial and political crises, and ensured Germany maintains its image on the international stage.
The uncertain outcome of Germany's election and the subsequent French presidential election in April has created uncertainty – at least for now – in the two biggest economic and political powers at the center of the EU.
Scholz, who in the previous cabinet held the posts of German Finance Minister and deputy Chancellor, managed to pull the SPD Party out of poor opinion poll predictions and proved a narrow lead in Sunday's election (26/09). Meanwhile Laschet, Prime Minister of the state of Nord Rhein-Westphalia, "stumbled" on a series of political wrong moves.
"Voters have spoken very clearly," said Scholz, Monday (27/09). “They gave reinforcement to three parties – Social Democrats, Greens, and Liberal Democrats (FDP) – so this is the real mandate given to this citizen: These three parties must lead the next government.”
Laschet rumus menghitung angka togel sgp said his party also wanted to lead a coalition with two smaller parties. The only other option that could win a parliamentary majority would be a repeat of the "grand coalition" of the Christian Union and Social Democrats. It was this grand coalition that ruled Germany for 12 of Merkel's 16-year term, which has often been marred by bickering. did not want the formation of a grand coalition.
In addition, Laschet has also faced calls from within his own party to resign after poor voting results saw his group lose dozens of parliamentary seats - including in the constituency Merkel has won since 1990.
