Fishing may seem quite tricky and difficult for first-time anglers, but once you get the hang of it, it is a quite fun activity. With a bit of practice, proper fishing gear, and a fishing license, you are good to indulge in this entertaining activity. Also, with some insights from this article, you would be catching fish in no time.
The basics of fishing:
Get a license
Before you head out to your nearest stream or lake and dip your fishing rod in water with a live bait make sure that you have obtained permits for fishing from the state you are living in. fishing permits and licenses are easily available online or at your local fishing shop. They can also be found in some convenience stores although that is a rare case. The price of a single day of fishing license is somewhere around $20 but the price of a fishing license depends entirely on the state you live in. Also, some states levy extra charges for the people who are not residing outside of the state. If you are a fishing enthusiast and frequently go on fishing trips then yearly licenses are a better deal for you. The price for an annual license is between $50 to $150, again depending on the state of your residency.
Where should you go?
It is always better to talk to a local. The locals have a better knowledge of fishing as they are well informed about local water bodies. Generally, lakes are a great option for beginners. The water in the lake is not so rapid and you can easily catch some fishes. Also, the fishes in a lake are often hungrier than river fishes and thud you would score well on your first day of fishing itself. The most common types of fishes found in lakes are bass, panfish, or rainbow trout. Fishes like salmon and trout and exclusive only to rivers.
Fishing etiquettes
Like every game has its own set of mannerisms fishing also has some etiquettes and it is better to learn these etiquettes in thebeginning itself. Wherever you are fishing make sure that you are being respsctful to other anglers and are not creating a nuisance. Do not barge in a spot in which someone else is fishing. It is considered quite rude to do so. You must maintain a distance of 50 to 60 feet of distance between other anglers and yourself. If the place is too crowded and you can not maintain this muh distance then make sure to at least not invade their space. Also, do not stock fish more than you can eat. You are no fish seller. Only fish as much as you can eat. Be aware of the environment you are fishing in. check whether the section of water you are fishing in is catch and release, fly-fishing, or limited to the use of artificial lures only (use of live baits is not permitted). You will have to check this with your local regulation book as most of the times there are no signs to convey this. You can aslo check this up on your state’s forest department website.
Gear
For a beginner, a spinning reel and rod is the best combination. You have to use them together. They are easy to set up. You should choose a rod that does not feels too heavy in your hands. Next is lures and baits for the fishes. Liveworms and power bait are good baits. After the lures you will have to get a good net. A rubber net is easier to manage than the nylon ones. Like with any outdoor activity, your fishing needs will expand as you gain more experience.
