Behind Those Walls

Beyond those tall walls,
Is a lost girl crying for help
Once upon a time,
The walls were not there,
People can reach her easily
But some took advantage of her
They hurt her, broke her
Until she changed
She was not what she used to be
She made the wall around her,
It stood tall and proud
Beyond the walls she's safe
Over the years, the wall grew higher
Strengthened by pain and bitterness
But beyond those walls,
She was unreachable,
People thought she was cold,
Heartless, apathetic, selfish
They avoided her
Which was what she wished for
But deep inside, she was lonely
She craves love and understanding
Yet, she cannot lower her walls,
To reach for what she desires
The walls are her protection,
It is also her curse
The walls ensured her safety
But it also imprisoned her
She tries to convince herself
It is alright, it's better this way
But in her heart she hopes
That one day, someone would try to reach her,
Save her and teach her to trust again,
But until then, she will remain
A prisoner beyond the walls
