How To Use Menstrual Cups?
It may be quite difficult for first-time users to use menstrual cups so here we are with a step-by-step guide to use menstrual cups-
Wash
Always remember to wash your hands and menstrual cup using clean water and mild soap or Menstrual Cup Wash before inserting it.
Fold
There are many different folding methods so find the one that is suitable for you. When you’re inserting your menstrual cup, you have to keep it folded until it is inside of your vagina.
While inserting keep your muscles relax and find a comfortable position such as you can lie down, squat, sit or simply stand up. Be in the position that works best for you.
Insert And Release
Place the folded menstrual cup inside you and once it is inside remove your fingers and let it spread. If the menstrual cup is inserted properly, you will hear a suction sound that confirms that the cup is inserted properly and has created the required suction seal.
If you’re in doubt, check again and feel around the base of the cup to make sure that there are no noticeable folds. If you feel any folds on the base or you’re not sure the suction seal has been created, then gently rotate it to make it unfold.
How To Remove
Inserting menstrual cups may sound easy now let's start with a step-by-step guide to make removal easy-
Put your hand inside the Vagina and try to reach the cup and pull on the stem until you can reach the base of the cup.
Squeeze the cup for a few seconds to give the seal time to break.
Once you have squeezed the base to release the air, pull the cup out in a sideways angle.
Following are a few tips that can make this process easy:
1. Bear down: It is completely normal for the menstrual cup to move up in the vaginal canal. This can make reaching the cup for removal a little more difficult don’t panic, simply bear down with your stomach muscles similar to having a bowel movement reach inside the vagina and pull the stem until you can have access to the base of the cup.
2. Squat
If you are still not able to reach the cup, squat on the floor or lift one leg. This will lower the cup comparatively and makes it easier to reach.
3. Relax
This is an important point before inserting or removing menstrual cup relax so that your vaginal muscles do not become tense. Take a few deep breaths and then try again.
4. Hygiene
Ensure your hands are clean and are completely dry. The drier fingers make the removal process easier. It is also advised to reach up and dry the base of the cup with a little bit of toilet paper to ensure you can get the best grip.
5. Break the side seal
If the pinch and squeeze, method doesn’t work for you carefully insert one finger up the side of the cup and sort of push it to break the seal.
What if The Cup Got Stuck?
Don't worry this is not a serious issue the first and foremost thing one must do is to Relax, breathe, and don’t force it. You can also go for a water-based lube for help. Find your comfortable position such as squatting because it helps open up the pelvis and makes the vaginal canal shorter, often helping your cup lowers itself a little.
