The world of sports has honored athletes through inducting them into halls-of-fame for many years. Basketball, football, and baseball were the most popular sports shrines. However, boxing was somehow overlooked. Although professional boxing champions are among the most beloved athletes of all time, there wasn't a permanent structure until 1989 to honor the true legends.
A town's love of its boys, who went on to become world champions later in life, inspired the idea of a boxing hall-of-fame. Canastota residents honored Carmen Basilio (one-time welterweight, middleweight champion) and Billy Backus (70 welterweight title holder). The city raised funds to host a celebration honoring their love and the accomplishments of these local boxing heroes.
This was the single project that ignited the passion to create the first boxing hall of fame and museum. The project was completed in 1989 with the presence of two dozen ex-boxing champions. On this site, which is still a popular tourist attraction, the International Boxing Hall of Fame cut its ribbon. The first class of boxing greats was inducted one year after its creation. Muhammad Ali, a legendary boxing legend, was one of them. The International Boxing Hall of Fame added an additional wing and an event pavilion to its museum joel embiid injury. It is located adjacent to the hall. The International Boxing Hall of Fame hosts its annual induction ceremony in June to celebrate the sport of boxing, and the legends who have fought it.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame's memorabilia store is one of its most striking features. This shop offers autograph collectors rare opportunities to purchase some incredible items.
