To become a chemical engineer, you'll need to have a bachelor's degree in chemistry, a teacher-certified degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As an analytical chemist, you'll be responsible for determining the chemical nature and structure of substances. Analytical chemists study the chemical reactions between substances to develop new products and processes. To do this, they use different techniques such as spectroscopy and electro-chromatography. Lastly, there are environmental engineers who study the effects of industrial pollution and come up with strategies to mitigate its effects.

Toxicologists are among the most sought after positions in major chemical companies. They investigate the effects of dangerous substances, such as pesticides and solvents. Toxicologists also play a crucial role in the legal system. Toxicologists need a bachelor's degree in a related subject.

Other chemist jobs include analytical chemist and industrial chemist. Industrial chemists help make chemical discoveries into goods. In addition to research and development, industrial chemists create textiles and formulation chemists help test the goods. In addition, forensic chemists help in post-mortem toxicology and evidence analysis.

A PhD in chemical engineering is also required for this position. As a professor, you'll be responsible for teaching thousands of students.
