Low-tech inventions

In the late 1800s, Nikola Tesla made several advancements in radio technology. In 1893, he presented his idea for wireless radio at a lecture in St. Louis, where he received some criticism for misleading the public. Today, radio is widely used and has a variety of applications.

Computers

Computers are relatively new technology, but they are already helping people do a wide variety of tasks. They make it easier to do everything from navigate while driving to creating documents. Even before computers became widely available, people relied on other devices to accomplish similar tasks.

Robotics

Drones are a technological marvel that are designed to deliver and collect data in areas that humans cannot. Their origins can be traced back to the early days of World War I when the U.S. Air Force was interested in developing aerial torpedoes. Engineer Charles Kettering designed and built a winged aircraft with a warhead. The prototype, dubbed the Kettering Bug, was made of papier mache and wood, with a radio attached to its autopilot. It could cast off its wings and attack a target, making it an ideal weapon for combat. Kettering recruited Elmer Sperry to help him develop his project.
