Data science and Entrepreneurship

We tend to draw a line between the tech-startups and non-tech startups whenever we speak about businesses. Startups that depend on technology or whose product or service is essentially technological are often supposed to be the sole benefactor from the use of data science. Well, nothing could be so far away from the truth. What you need to understand is that using data analytics technology to grow business has little to do with technology and everything to do with business. So, if you have a business or if you are planning to walk the entrepreneurial way, you will need data science at a certain point irrespective of whether you are trying to sell software or broomsticks. Even if you are not planning to take your business online (which is suicidal, of course) data analytics can still offer some help. Let us see how.

The game of personalization

Unless your product appeals to the potential customer at a personal level, it can be hard for you to cut through the crowd of well established competitors. Why would the customers be interested in what you have to offer unless you make them feel special; unless you cater to their specific requirements? So, you try and personalize the products or rather you try to personalize the ads for the potential consumers.

You use data analytics to draw insights from their browsing history, transactional history, and social-media behaviour. Putting all these data through some model you may find clues to their behavioural patterns; you might find a way to customize your ads to reach a certain type of customers with similar behavioural patterns. This might not work all the time, well it will fail more often than not but you have something to work with rather than playing a guessing game based on intuition.

Predicting the trend

Personalizing is all about studying your customers and optimizing the product or the ad to suit them. But optimization can only happen if you are in line with the market trends. Data shows buying patterns among customers. They can go on a buying spree at one point and stop purchasing stuff altogether the very next week. It is important to be informed and act proactively.

Data science can actually use models to predict consumer behaviour. This is being used around the globe in various industries to reduce risk and increase profitability.

Increasing efficiency

Once you integrate data science in your enterprise there will be less guess work and more insightful steps. This, in the long run, helps your operations become cost-effective. You will significantly reduce the risk factor in business. A lot of the reporting work will be automated, so, you will be able to concentrate on the creative issues.

Data science training can be really beneficial for any entrepreneur because utilizing data for competitive edge is inevitable in a business situation and what is better than taking care of your own data by yourself. You can definitely hire help but there is no harm in keeping a watchful eye on the figures. Data is what is going to help you float.
