You can do a lot with fabric! But what is easy and fun to do yourself? In our recurring inspiration post 'What can you do with fabric?' we give a new tutorial every month. This time we are going to make a beach bag out of fabric!

With these summer temperatures we prefer to be on the beach every day. Enjoy the sun, the sea and a good book with your feet in the soft sand. Whether you travel to the warm south or prefer the Greece coast, a good beach bag is your most important summer essential ! And what's more fun than your own unique copy? In this tutorial we explain in simple steps how you can make your own beach bag.
The most beautiful fabrics for your beach bag
Of course you want to shine on the beach with your homemade beach bag! So a nice fabric is a must! Fortunately, you are in the right place at De Groot Stoffen. We have a wide choice of decorative fabrics made of different materials, in solid colors or nice summer prints.
Before we start, it is important to choose the size of your beach bag. The perfect beach bag should be big enough for your beach towel, sunglasses, sunscreen and a bottle of water. All our fabrics are at least 140 cm wide. So with only 70 cm of fabric you can already make a beach bag of 68 x 65 cm, which fits a lot of beach gear!
These fabrics are very suitable for a summer beach bag:
Heavy canvas : a tough fabric with a single stripe. With this sturdy fabric, a lining is not necessary.
Gobelin : for lovers of cheerful, colored prints. Whether you like floral, animal or more geographical prints, there is something for everyone.

Nautic / maritime decoration fabrics : the nicest prints completely in the style of the beach and the sea.

Make your own beach bag in 4 steps
Place two equal sized pieces of fabric right sides together and sew the bottom seam and side seams.
Cut the corners diagonally, iron the seams and then turn the whole thing over.
Next we are going to make the handle of the beach bag. You do this by making a 'tunnel' at the top edge with one or two open pieces. Thread a thick rope through this and voilà, your beach bag is ready!
Or go for the alternative: fold in the top edge of the beach bag and sew it in place. Here you make a few buttonholes through which you thread a thick rope. Finally, tie a knot in the rope so that it hangs behind the buttonhole. It can be that simple! https://www.seayousoon.gr/swimwear/
