What is a dental bridge?
If you have missing teeth, your dentist can bridge the gaps in your smile with a dental bridge treatment. A dental bridge is an artificial tooth secured by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. Although the false tooth can be made from various materials such as gold or special alloys, they are typically made from porcelain to blend in with your teeth naturally.

Coming to the types of dental bridge, there are four main types:

Traditional dental bridge
A traditional dental bridge consists of an artificial tooth that is cemented over each of the abutment teeth. A traditional bridge is the most popular type and can be used when you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap due to your missing tooth.
Cantilever dental bridge
Although similar to the traditional bridge, the artificial tooth in this type of dental bridge is held in place by a dental metal crown tooth cemented to one abutment tooth. For a cantilever bridge, you need one natural tooth next to the missing tooth gap.
Maryland dental bridge
Maryland dental bridges are the ones that employ two natural abutment teeth, one on each side of the gap. While a traditional bridge uses dental crowns on the abutment teeth, a Maryland bridge uses a framework of either porcelain or metal that is bonded onto the backs of the abutment teeth.
Implant-supported dental bridge
As the name indicates, the implant-supported bridge uses dental implants as opposed to frameworks or crowns. Typically, one implant is surgically placed for every missing tooth, thus holding the bridge in position. If one implant for each missing tooth is not possible, the bridge may have an artificial tooth suspended between two implant-supported crowns. It can take several months for the procedure to be finished entirely.
Cost of Dental Bridges
Traditional bridge: ranges from $2,000-$5,000 if treatment requires only one artificial tooth and a crown on each adjacent tooth.
Cantilever bridge: A nearly-identical price range to traditional tooth bridge cost a little less due to the one less crown needed.
Maryland bridge: this type of bridge is less expensive, typically costing $1,500-$2,500 for an artificial tooth and the metal or ceramic framework that supports it.
Implant-supported bridge: The number of teeth missing is a significant factor. Hence it can cost anywhere from $5,000-$15,000 depending on how many artificial teeth and implants are done.
