Doors & Windows

Doors & Windows are essential for the safety and comfort of your home. They also help increase the value of your property.

Doors and windows are crafted from various materials, which can include steel, wood, glass or metal. They should be of high quality for a long lasting performance.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

LVDUN Door and window energy efficiency ratings, such as U-factors and solar heat gain coefficients, are measured by a third-party certification program, the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). They provide a reliable way to compare windows and doors and ensure they have a low u-factor and good solar heat gain.

The NFRC’s U-factor ratings represent the entire performance of the window, including frame and spacer material. A lower NFRC U-factor means less non-solar heat transfer and more energy efficiency for your home.

You can also look for an NFRC rating for the door or window’s air leakage rate, which indicates how much energy will be lost through the window or door. This is especially important in colder climates where it’s more costly to heat your home.

Many of the design features in a quality window or door, such as high-performance glass packages and technologically advanced spacer systems, translate to heightened energy efficiency. These features include insulating glass units with Low-E coatings and argon gas filling, as well as engineering advancements that stop the transfer of heat and cold.

SECURITY

There are a lot of things that go into making your home secure. Sturdy building materials, high-quality locks and maybe even an alarm system.

However, there are weak spots in the system that make it vulnerable to break-ins. One such place is the door, especially when it has glass.

The most common way to improve the security of a door with glass is to reinforce it, but that can be an expensive and time-consuming process. Another option is to use window security films, which are coatings applied to the glass in windows to reinforce it.

LOW MAINTENANCE

Doors & Windows are designed to be low maintenance and to last for many years. You will likely only need to replace your weather stripping every few years and repair parts that break within the opening and closure mechanisms as needed.

Choosing the frame material is another way to make sure you’re selecting a door that’s low maintenance. Vinyl or fiberglass are typically lower maintenance options than wood and metal.

If you prefer the look of wood, a clad-wood window is an option that gives you both the natural beauty of wood inside and outside of your home. These windows feature a wood interior with aluminum cladding on the exterior frame. This combines the aesthetics of wood with the low maintenance appeal of aluminum. We’re proud to offer these windows from Sunrise, a manufacturer that’s known for its durability and reliability.
