An Endless Night

Closing my eyes as they turn crimson red,
Lying still on the grass with the starry sky above;

With eyes closed, I can still see the things that I most dread,
The night grows colder and with it grows my longing for love.

The grass is soft but I can only feel the icy dew drops,

The night is cold and misty, the field soon enveloped in fog;

Shivering as I fall asleep on the grass, the grass as cold as mountain tops,

Soon I am awoken by the chilly winds only to find myself in the company of a dog.

The animal is weak and hungry,
Sleeping all the time in these cold winter nights;
Despite the adverse conditions, those sparkling eyes reflect a soul so free,

The moon burns brighter and I Enjoy the starry sites.

The night is not as harsh as it was before,
Within no time the morning sun comes up over the horizon;
I soak up the sunshine feeling refreshed to the core,
The dog walks away,all its work having been done.
