What if I could turn the clock back? Oh, I certainly would have, for I cannot ever miss that opportunity for the world; the chance to relive those moments which defined our love..
But life, is cruel. The clocks never run backwards.
Don't you think love is overrated? People yearn to fall in love and are forever on the lookout for what they call their soulmate. But at the end of the day, more people are left devastated in the ravages of love, than those who are in its good books.
It takes lives, builds lives; it creates indelible memories for us to either cherish, or despair; and this is the beauty of love, they say. But that's strange, for how do I call something beautiful if it ends up giving me only sadness? Ah! Therein lies the conundrum, for not only is it truly beautiful, but it definitely provides happiness as well. Shall I call love two-faced, then?
Remember, in Harry Potter, the lady on the train used to sell a box of 'every flavour candies'? That box, is the box of love. For, every candy looks equally inviting on the outset, but you'd never guess what lies underneath. By the time you're through the whole box, you would have smiled and cringed in equal measure.
And Medusa? You'd have heard of her. She was strikingly beautiful, but if any man looked into her face, that would be his end. If he chose to look at her, he would have the privilege of witnessing her unparalleled beauty, but only for a few moments, as death would await him thereafter. Love can be Medusa sometimes - a magnificent death knell.
Love is a dangerous path to tread on, but it still has its takers.
It was a finite love, you and me. It didn't last long, but that doesn't take away its charm. We loved each other through the mugs of coffee, hot and cold; through the songs that struck both our chords; and of course, Agatha Christie. We spent only a few months in each other's company, and that is but a tiny speck in our lifetime that spans a few decades. The years will go by, at their own merry pace, revisiting these dates again and again- dates which our unfinished love immortalized in limited lifetime. But they will never be the same again.
The dawn was beautiful, and it signalled the beginning of something fresh, but alas! It turned out to be a winter's day, and dusk arrived before we knew it.
You were one who'd been shattered again and again, while I had never been even close to it. The guillotine had to fall some day, hadn't it? And it did, but not before we had created enough memories to last a lifetime. We had our fair and unfair share of hurt, though a rather equal share of love. We seemed similar, as if blending somehow.
Twilight is here, soon to be dark, and it is time to say goodbye. Not everything that is golden lasts forever. Maybe in a different timeline it could have lasted an infinity, but I can't judge that.
So long, my love.
