In reality, Henry Ford had nothing to do with it at all. It was designed by the then chief engineer to the company. He was also a close friend to the Ford family and helped them pick out an ideal logo for the soon-to-be, ideal car brand.

Over the years, the ford emblems have gone through multiple changes even though their product quality, consumer trust, and exceptional delivery have remained unchanged.

• 1903-1906- The first ford emblem was very different from what we see today. It was nothing close to the streamlined and simple design we associate with the brand today. It was characteristically black and 107white; circle shaped and had an artistic art nouveau patterned border.

• 1907 saw the birth of Fords’ first signature-based logo. Its script resembled the one we so adore today.

• In 1912, an extremely unsuccessful and brief logo saw the light of day. It held the ford design on a dark blue pyramid with wings. Yeah, try imagining that on your car! The wings were intended to represent strength and speed but quickly fell out of favor.

• The next design saw the Ford name encapsulated in an oval for the first time. It was designed to be black on a white background. It grew in popularity and came to be widely used. This new design stuck strong till 1927.

• Henceforth, this theme of the ford name encapsulated in an oval became a common theme. All the new designs post followed this basic form.

• The introduction of the oval soon assumed the iconic Ford color of royal blue. But the encapsulating oval was much rounder than what we see today.

• In 1976, the much loved and appreciated Ford logo of today was born. And it has stayed permanent ever since. Its comparatively elongated oval with shaded ends took to the liking of all. It was titled the Centennial blue oval.
