I had to keep running. If I stopped for even a moment, I'd be killed, mauled. It was right behind me, only inches away. I felt the sharp sting of it's claws scrape against my back and screamed out in pain. It was bleeding bad. Within seconds, there was blood making my shirt stick to my back. I didn't know how much longer I could keep running. Everything hurt so horribly. I was losing a lot of blood and I had gashes all over my body from the thorns of various plants throughout the woods. I could hear it getting closer. And the closer it got to me, the more it slashed my skin open. I could feel myself slowing down and I could barely see the path ahead of me. The full moon was my only source of light and that too was blocked the the trees. As I was about to reach a small town, exhaustion kicked in and I lost concentration for a split second. But a split second was all it needed to pounce. It tackled me to the ground and sticks and thorns stuck to my back, but it was nothing compared to the pain that the wolf in front of me inflicted. It bit in my neck and scratched the side of me open. I screamed in agony as I looked into its bright blue eyes and hoped for death. No one came to save me. No one noticed that I was gone. And no one knew who's body it was when they found me battling for life, because I was so horribly deformed.
I woke up, damp with sweat and panicking. My breaths slowly evened out as I realized it was only a nightmare. It had felt so real. It was the same dream every night, where I was mutilated and murdered by a wolf. It wasn't a trauma. The dream felt too real for it to be trauma or a deeper meaning.
This happened for many more days and slowly I started to forget it as the date for the annual village fest was closing in. With all my friends, I was in a jolly mood of zest.
The fest day was perfect. There was no nightmare the previous night. I got a deep sleep with unknown reason of content. The entire day passed with me and my friends getting ready for the gala. Everything seemed so perfect that I had no idea how my life was about to be changed.
After the fest, which took place a few kilometers away from the village, me and my friends were walking back to our homes, giggling and laughing. On a lonely street, we all heard a loud howl somewhere and two or three more howls fooled it. And suddenly, it was all silent again. White pale from fright, all of us came closer to each other. Fearing each and every step we took.
The was a sudden movement ahead of us and before we knew it, we were surrounded by a pack of wolves. One of my friend fainted from intense fright and others were scared to death. We were 4 in total. The other two tried running away and to my immense surprise, the wolves allowed them too.
This is my chance, I thought. I tried running too but with swift agility, they got me cornered and my only way out was through the forest. I decided it was then or never and started a run for it.
I saw the sight. Six or seven wolves surrounded me and the one, whom I assumed to be the leader of the pack, approached me. I saw into its bright blue with complete terror. The scene itself was frightening. Before I could react, all of them howled and the leader bit my neck. I felt excruciating pain at first and then suddenly it started to feel good. I felt hungry and completely new. As if I got a new strength. I saw the pack in front of me, looking at me but not moving at all but this time, I was scared of them.
I soon knew why. As I tried to stand up, I noticed my hands. It wasn't of humanly shape anymore but were muscular, furry limbs. I stood up on all my fours and the pack bowed in front of me.
This was it.
We all picked up pace, the pack following me and before realization dawned me, I was facing the people infront of me. And yes, I was hungry.
