Furmark Global Certification and Traceability: Procedural Steps of Supply Chain

The consumer traceability system is essential to Furmark, complementing the spectrum of animal welfare and environmental sustainability programs.

Natural fur clothes are renewable, long-lasting, and of exceptional quality. Natural fur has been manufactured and utilized since the dawn of time, and therefore its origins are those of artisanal skill. Such skin-working talent is currently held by highly trained professionals who pass on their expertise to the next generation.

Presently, more than ever, the fur business is dedicated to ensuring that all of its products are manufactured under rigorous laws and worldwide standards governing responsibility, sustainability, and compliance.

Because every fur garment is made following international norms and regulations, we can ensure an exceptionally high quality of the skins as well as complete traceability of the trade and supply chain, resulting in a valued end product.

Supply Chain

The Furmark Supply Chain began with farm raids and wild fur being delivered to the Auction House. At the auction, natural fur from the specified farm and wild fur programs that are certified by Furmark is sold. International auction houses, which are accredited by the IFF or International Fur Federation, as well as by governments, guarantee that brands and end customers get furs that are ethically sourced and manufactured responsibly.

The auction houses' certification procedures ensure the pelts' quality and provenance from recognized species, nations, and complying farms. As a result, the system offers full traceability of the manufacturing chain to the end customer.

Approved fur purchased at auction must undergo a certified dressing and dyeing procedure. Manufacturers maintain records of certified skins received. Labels include a one-of-a-kind "trace now" code that is connected to the ChainPoint system. Throughout the value chain, independent specialists are charged with ensuring compliance and assurance.

Furmark Certification

Furmark is a globally recognized certification and traceability system for natural fur that ensures animal welfare and environmental requirements are met. Furmarkanimal ®'s welfare and environmental programs are founded on research, are third-party verified, and are completely transparent. Furmark goods are traceable, independently validated, and guaranteed to meet internationally recognized standards.

The fur sector is dedicated to openness and sustainability, as shown by the launch of a new worldwide initiative called Furmark. Only goods that adhere to worldwide standards at every stage of the manufacturing method will be Furmark certified and included in this intricate system of traceability.

The final customers will be able to track the whole manufacturing chain and independently verify that the final clothes satisfy globally accepted quality, sustainability, and animal welfare criteria through the FURMARK program.

Sustainable Products

Natural fur clothes are the epitome of slow fashion, adhering to principles of sustainability, transparency, and high quality. This is because the manufacturing process is controlled at every stage, it benefits from the expertise and history of its employees, and it uses completely biodegradable raw materials.

Natural fur garments provide unmatched thermal insulation and have a negligible environmental effect when compared to the plastic imitation furs that are also available today. The latter significantly damage the environment since they are composed of non-recyclable plastic and are mass-manufactured with little regard for environmental stewardship or sustainability.

Natural fur clothing can be restyled to suit changing preferences, fads, or forms, and thus can be regarded as true investments to be passed down to succeeding centuries if designed properly.

Transparency

During fur auctions, species-specific tracking mechanisms are in place. Furmark will implement a traceability system across all major auctions, guaranteeing compatibility with current procedures. To ensure the process's robustness and transparency, Furmark will include a traceability system that connects the different processes across the supply chain's stages.

This traceability system is built on ChainPoint technology, a multilingual web-based platform that enables the registration of various supply chain stakeholders to interact throughout their networks.

Objective

Furmark-certified goods may be tracked back to their source. This follows the implementation of trial traceability systems with major auction houses, as well as selected producers, dressers, and dyers, to assess the process's resilience as fur travels through the supply chain. The traceability system was created and developed by a group of independent textile traceability specialists.

The goal is to track fur from its source to its destination, guaranteeing that the same degree of trust and assurance exists throughout the supply chain. Furmarktraceability ®'s platform is purpose-built to operate in conjunction with current systems.

ChainPoint System

The ChainPoint system will be completely linked with a labeling solution to guarantee that clothes include the necessary information and offer an appropriate degree of security and transparency.

While many commercial companies may choose a basic solution, IFF understands that certain high-end brands may want to customize their Furmark messaging. This viewpoint is reflected in the approach to labeling and other kinds of on-garment communication.

The Furmark badge and emblem will serve as an easily recognizable sign of quality and assurance, both in-store and on clothing.
