Isn’t keeping track of your everyday life interesting? Everybody once has tried their hands on writing a diary entry, getting inspired by Anne Frank. If you have ever written a diary in your school days, try reading it now. It’ll be a whole ride of laughter and nostalgia. Well, journaling and writing a diary entry are pretty similar. Journaling includes recording everything from the things you like, things you experience, and everything you want to write about. Some get custom-made journals to plan their month and even their year, while others like to record their everyday experiences. If you have gotten a custom journal and don’t know where to start, here are some easy steps.
Step 1: Pick your time
Before you start writing, choose a time that’d be best for journaling. Keep away from social media and other distractions while writing a journal. It is better if you write at the same time every day; it helps build a habit. Take out a time for journaling when there are least interruptions of other things, probably before sleeping.
Step 2: Select what you want to write about
Writing a journal works well; you decide on a single topic to write on. For example, it can be about your daily routine, your write-ups, personal issues, or a planner. Choose what you want to include in the journal.
You have control over your custom-made journal. There are no rules; feel free to write about anything you want. More often, people get confused in figuring out what to write about.
Here’s what you can write about if you are clueless.:
How was your day
Your plans for the day ahead
About your recent read
How you feel
Something you want to talk about
A memory, either bad or good
Step 3- Determine a period
Decide on the time period to journal every day and take out that much time just for journaling. Usually, 25 minutes is the suggested time for writing, but you can start by 5 minutes if it feels too long. Put on a timer every time you start writing. Keep it consistent without getting distracted by phones or social media.
You may write for a bit longer on weekends and holidays.
Step 4: Explore
While writing, do not limit yourself to what you want to write. Give door to what comes to your mind, even if it is negative. Your writing should be expressive and should include random ideas. Journaling is a practice to soothe your thoughts, and it doesn’t matter what you write in there. As far as it is comforting and comes with the flow, anything works fine in a journal.
Step 5: Add graphics
Make this practice interesting. Add life to your words through pictures. You can either draw, paste photos or pictures in the journal. Wherever you feel, add pictures that connect to what you have written. People also use colors in their custom-made journals that make their writing routine interesting. Even if you review any previous entry, it’d be fun to read it.
