Heading – My first rowing experience

I decided to give rowing a shot and it is my choice of sports to talk about this week. Here is a brief review of my experience and what I think about pursuing this activity.

So, I visited the Kuala Lumpur Rowing Club and met my very friendly trainer for the day. Her name is Rochelle. She helped me learn all the techniques and trained me to row in proper way.

The club was established in 2018 and rowing enthusiasts of all ages are welcome here. The full course takes about six weeks. But I just did a 20 minutes test to see how it feels and how it goes for me.

The first step was to set down the rowing machines. Rochelle than sat me down to pitch me on the proper method of rowing. I learnt how the arms, legs and the whole body should move in conjunction to row a boat. She then guided me on the right way of carrying the boat to the waters. She pointed out along the way that a boat can cost up to RM40,000. Hence, it is essential to carry the boat in the correct way in order to avoid any damage to it. I also learned how to take good care of boats.

Once the boat was set  Fitness down on the lake, I took off my shoes and settled myself in the boat. Initially, I just practiced near the edge of the lake to get a hang of the proper techniques before I set off rowing around the lake on my own. It was putting all the theory I learned to practice. I tried rowing around the lake but it was more difficult than I realized. You need to keep your balance which needs a lot of practice.

I must say that I enjoyed rowing immensely. It was peaceful and quiet, the sun was out, the surroundings were great and I felt really good. It was like exercising my body and mind to keep both healthy. It is a sport very close to nature. You are on the lake rowing your boat and while your full body is getting its dose of exercise, your mind is also sucking in all the serenity of nature.

Overall, I felt rowing is a great exercise that not only contributes to a full-body workout but can be calming too. It was a great experience for me and I can't wait to be back again.
