In 2016, Governor Tom Wolf gives his approval to Senate Bill 3, sometimes known as SB 3, and then signs it into law. Possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana or 8 grams of hash by those who do not have a valid medical marijuana card is considered a misdemeanor and may result in a maximum fine of $500 and possible detention for up to 30 days, depending on the circumstances. Possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana is considered a misdemeanor and may result in a fine of up to $5,000 and up to one year in jail time.
