What is the difference between 12 hours and a 24-hour clock?
12-hour clock
AllCalculators.net The 12-hour clock divides the full day into two cycles and is used in many countries that prefer English as the main language. The counting of time has two periods:
12 hours from midnight, denoted 12:00 am to midnight
Denoted 12:00 pm and from midnight to midnight, completing the 24-hour cycle.
The 12-hour clock is normal day and night, which consists of twelve hours characterized by the moon. Most analog clocks and watches have only a 12-hour clock. This clock includes night, morning, afternoon, and evening.
24-hour clock
In ancient Egypt, the 24-hour clock was used for centuries and continues to be used for years. The convention runs the day from midnight to midnight for twenty-four hours continuously. The time counting starts at midnight at 00:00 and runs through to twenty-three fifty-nine. Medics use this 24-hour clock to record patients' histories. Unlike the 12-hour clock, the 24-hour clock is specific to timelines and easy to interpret for most people.
How do you calculate hours and minutes worked?
You can calculate hours and minutes worked daily by converting all times to the 24-hour format.
Subtract the starting time from the end time. Example: start working at 8:30 and finish at 16:40; the result will be 16:40 -8:30 = 8:10
You can also use the carry-over method. Example: subtract 8:25 from 16, and it looks like: 15:60 – 8:25 = 7:35
Calculate weekly or monthly working time, and sum the times from all days.
