If you are looking at buying a franchise, I highly recommend using a Houston Franchise Coach in most instances. However, that's not always my recommendation. When that is the case, how do you choose one? Maybe you're asking what they are, in the first place. How can they help, anyway? So, let's answer these questions and see if my recommendation makes sense to you.
What is a Franchise Coach?
You'll often find franchise coaches called franchise brokers. That's because they are trained in the business of finding buyers for the franchises they represent. Some are part of a larger organization, perhaps even a franchise for conducting that business.
Others are independent. Some are both franchise and business brokers. In the latter case, very few spend any time brokering franchises, however. They almost always receive their compensation from the franchise. You need to always keep that in mind. It's both good and bad from your perspective, the potential franchise buyer.
How Do They Help?
With all that being said, the really good franchise brokers/coaches realize that the only way to be successful over the long haul is to conduct their business by properly coaching you, the prospective buyer to the best possible fit for your new business. They do this by finding out as much as possible about your needs, abilities, financial qualifications, personality, etc. They then compare that to franchises whose most successful owners are similar to you.
How Do I Choose One?
It's not always easy to know whether or not a franchise coach will be a good one without getting referrals from someone else who has used them. However, if you check with your local Small Business Development Center, they should be able to lead you in the right direction.
Once you've gone through the due diligence with your new coach and have chosen the right business that fits you, there's something else you need to do. You need to learn how to market your business properly.
The franchise should have a marketing plan, but many are stuck on marketing models that are no longer productive. Be sure to learn how to market your new business on-line. In fact, you'll be ahead of the game if you begin learning that now.
