The Early Days of T-Shirts

However, they failed to offer the outfits for warm weather. The introduction of the t-shirt came when someone initiated to split the union suit into two separate clothes.

With the passage of time, undergarment manufacturers started working with several fabrics & styles for creating comfortable and cooler undershirts. However, in the 19th century, undershirts with buttons and without buttons were launched. That style still resembles today's t-shirts.

In 1904, the Cooper Underwear Company started paying serious attention to the pullover undershirts for young men. Hence, they were considered bachelor undershirts. The tagline for such shirts was "No Buttons, No Safety Pins, No Thread, No Needle." Hence, the tagline used to dictate that these undershirts are made up of a single fabric and have no button. In addition, they were easy to maintain & durable.

Do you know when the war started between Americans and Spanish, the U.S. Navy issued soldiers pullover t-shirts without buttons? The reason was it was convenient for young militants to wear, and no stress of sewing the shirts with buttons.

After world war I, the U.S. Army decided to adopt the white-tee without a button. Meanwhile, manufacturers have started realizing the benefits & versatility of the t-shirts. Therefore, start designing & producing t-shirts for children (boys) & adults of all ages.

Young boys adore wearing t-shirts, and they have a collection of t-shirts in a variety of colors and sizes. Adults used to prefer white t-shirts more. T-shirts gradually gain importance among Americans.

As t-shirts became a core part of men's fashion in the 19th century. In the 1950s, t-shirts with pockets were incorporated to add a different design. The chest pocket tees were great in demand as they allowed the men to keep pens, keys, cash, and other small items feasibly.

Modern pockets generally come in the square or rounded shapes. Moreover, the pockets are positioned on the left side of the chest. Designers have used the idea lately for shirts to make the formal dresses more functional for men. Nowadays, pocket tees are available for both men and women.
