Your wedding photographer has the important task of immortalizing one of the happiest days of your life, from the dress and costume you have chosen, to the decoration that it took you months to imagine, and until every little moment that reminds you of this sublime day. It is therefore important to choose the right wedding photographer!
Faced with the difficulty that this can represent, here are 3 tips for choosing your wedding photographer !
1. Find your wedding photo style
Before you start looking for your wedding photographer, you should first decide on the style of photos you prefer . This will allow you to determine which type of photographer to refer to.
To do this, take the time to look at wedding photos on Pinterest, Instagram or even on wedding blogs and identify those that you like. please. Once you have a sizable list of photos, try to see more specifically what you liked about each one and determine what suits you and your other half the most. Are the photos posed, the photos taken on the spot, the colorimetry or the composition?
If you like bright photos in pastel tones, a "Fine Art" wedding photographer will surely be the right choice for you. On the other hand, if you like photos contrasted with warm tones, turn
to a photographer in the "Moody" style. Also, if you favor authentic photos taken on the spot, go to a photographer with a photo essay approach.
These are just a few examples of styles you can find. In truth, there are almost as many styles as there are wedding photographers. Especially since today, many photographers mix different
styles and mix, for example, photos posed and taken on the spot or even color and black and white. This is why we remind you that you do not have to focus on one and
only one style. Nonetheless, if there is one that you are 100% sure to love, select wedding photographers who specialize in that style.
2. Read the opinions of the previous married couple
After identifying a list of wedding photographers that match the style of photos you want and that match your budget, we strongly recommend that you read the reviews that the previous couple left about them on Google for example or on Facebook.
Note that today, photographers are present on several platforms to increase their visibility. It is therefore possible that they have scattered opinions on them. To read as many reviews as possible, we recommend that you search Google for their name + “reviews” .
3. Ask to see a full wedding report
In the portfolios or galleries of the various wedding photographers, you will only find their most beautiful photos and that's normal!
These give you an idea of the photographer's work but cannot represent all of his work. So, ask to see one or more full reports in order to get a more precise idea of what you are going to have as photos after your wedding.
This way, you will be able to realize more easily if the quality of the photographer's work is homogeneous throughout the report or if the photos he or she presents on his website are only a sample that is not very representative of his job.
Please note, some photographers may refuse to show you complete reports for image rights reasons. This is completely legitimate. It's up to you to see if this is prohibitive for you or not.
