How to polish Terrazzo Floors?

Terrazzo is a composite material of marble chips and concrete or resin that is compounded to create smooth and luxurious flooring that captures the beauty of marble in the most low-priced way. The stone is generally combined of two parts marble chips to one part binder and extra chips may be distributed on the top of the mixture for an even more marbled visual aspect. Special mixtures of terrazzo may also use mother of pearl or abalone shell for contrary appearances.

A combination of different kinds of stones and marble with cement or epoxy goes to make the terrazzo stone floors. These kinds of flooring need to be sealed after they are laid because they are made of permeable substances. To make it gleam it needs proper shining and cleaning. You always need to use specific substances to clean and polish during Terrazzo Restoration. This will ensure that there is minimum floor damage during the coating work of the floors.

The terrazzo floor polish done consistently gives good results.

Mentioned below is a step wise know-how to Terrazzo Restoration.

1. Remove dirt using a damp mop before applying a coat of polish. You need to go for a pH-neutral cleaner here. Add this into a bucket of water. You can follow the manufacturer’s guidance printed on the label of the cleaning substance. Using the mop, apply this mixture on the floor.

2. Then with a clean dampened mop start removing the cleaner. The dirt and dust will automatically be removed with this process. Then the floor tiling should be allowed to dry overnight.

3. Now you need to use a terrazzo sealer. Apply it on the floor using a floor roller or a floor brush. There should always be a little excess of sealant. Wipe it off and then leave it for an overnight. By morning this would have dried.

4. On this terrazzo flooring sprinkle the polishing powder. Run the buffer across the whole surface of the entire floor. The powder will form a slurry and it will absorb almost all the powder.

5. The leftover powder should be got off with a damp mop. Then again the floor has to be buffed to acquire the shine you need.

Because this type of flooring is inexpensive and widely available across the world, you will be able to keep your stone bright and beautiful for many years, no matter what type of wear and tear it is subjected to.
