How to Prepare Your Outdoor Power Equipment for Storage

Info

Outdoor power equipment is necessary for every homeowner in order to maintain the exterior of their homes. When planning to buy the best outdoor power equipment parts & accessories, make sure to find good quality products and ensure that they can be able to withstand all kinds of wear and tear.

Once your lawn gets its last cut before the start of winter, it is important to store your outdoor power equipment in a proper way. If you are living in an area where the temperature drops below the freezing point, you need to take extra steps to protect your outdoor power equipment. In this article, we will discuss some tips to prepare your outdoor power equipment for storage.

Review the Owner’s Manual:

When you are preparing to store your outdoor power equipment, make sure to read the owner’s manual for safety storage purposes. Recall how to handle the equipment safely and how to remove the parts and accessories for maintenance. If you don’t have a manual for your equipment, you can easily find it online.

Servicing The Equipment:

Once you removed the important parts from the outdoor power equipment, make sure to clean and provide service for the part. You can do this by yourself with the help of the manual or if you don’t want to take the risk, you can consult a nearby engine repair shop. Drain and change the engine oil correctly and carefully dispose of the old oil. Also, you can perform several maintenance activities like servicing the air filter, etc by using the service manual.

Maintaining the Blade:

If you are having high-quality lawn mower equipment, make sure to clean and grease the blades before storing them for winter. Cleaning the blades results in removing the residual sap or bio-matter leftover from the lawn work, which is the more important thing to do before storing. Oiling the blades helps in protecting the blade from rust. When you are planning to store a blade, make sure to add some moisture protection in order to achieve better quality and longer life of the blades.

Handle the Fuel Properly:

You should never store any power equipment with the fuel on. This is because ethanol-based fuels react more quickly and cause damage to the inner working of the equipment. When you want to store the equipment, consider adding the fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and then run the equipment to distribute it. Turn off the engine and allow the machine to cool, then restart again and run until it runs out of fuel.

Find the Correct Space:

Store your outdoor power equipment in a clean and dry place. Garages are the best place to store your outdoor power equipment and make sure to keep the water away from the equipment in order to prevent rust. Also, keep your power equipment out of the reach of children and pets.
