How to wash your Duvet at Home

Info

1. Wash your duvet in cold water

Duvets should always be washed in cold water and never hot water. Hot water could damage the material and cause shrinkage. Cold water helps prevent any shrinking and makes sure that the fibers stay intact. You can use either detergent or soap. Detergents are not recommended for washing bedding since they might leave residue behind. Soap is the best option for cleaning your duvet. Use regular dishwashing liquid if you want to clean your duvet without using any harsh chemicals. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even try making your own homemade laundry detergent. Just add baking soda and vinegar to some warm water and mix well. This mixture will help remove stains and dirt from your duvet.

2. Dry your duvet thoroughly

After washing your duvet, make sure to dry it thoroughly. If you do not dry it properly, you may end up with mildew and mold. To dry your duvet, hang it out on a clothesline or spread it over a flat surface. Do not use a fan or air conditioner because these things can actually blow the moisture away.

3. Store your duvet in a cool place

If you live in an area where temperatures fluctuate throughout the year, it's advisable to store your duvet in a cooler place. Make sure the duvet stays away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. A closet or cabinet is a good spot.

4. Avoid using plastic bags

Plastic bags can trap moisture inside your duvet and lead to mildew and mold. Instead, wrap your duvet in a towel or pillow case before placing it in storage.

5. Keep your duvet away from pets and children

Children and animals can easily get their hands on your duvet and potentially ruin it. When storing your duvet, keep it in a safe place and avoid letting anyone else touch it.
