In a moment of Candour

You saw the brown in my eyes,

The grey in my hair,

The blemish on my skin,

My hidden despair.

In a moment of candour

Beneath the yellow light,

“You’re beautiful”, you said,

“So run away”, you cried.

You saw the scar on my knee,

The pride in my glare,

The seal on my lip,

The quiet in my air.

In a moment of candour,

Beneath the yellow light,

You conjured up my fears,

But brightened up the night.

In a moment of candour,

You sung my stolen song,

Laughed at my mistakes

Stirred the Right into Wrong.

In a moment of candour,

You axed my broken ties,

Painted me in Prussian blue

And opened up my eyes.
