Recently there have been several new openings for Post Office Passport Seva Kendras. Eight of them to be exact. The central postal regions at Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Karur,
perambalur, Sirkali, and Tiruthuraipoondi Head Post Offices, and Karaikal MDG Sub Post Office are the ones with the Post Office Passport Seva Kendras have opened up. The new appointments anointed to each POPSK have been reduced since the onset of the lockdown. A maximum of only 10 applicants at Cuddalore, Chidambaram, and Kallakuruichi have been permitted. While at Perambalur and Tiruthuraipoondi were allowed 20 appointments.
The lockdown has been lifted and passport offices have started to accept more appointments daily nowadays.
All post office passport Seva Kendra has increased the number of daily appointments to 40. Although, the Karaikal Post Office Passport Seva Kendra allows a maximum of 50 appointments in a 24-hour interval. Applicants have the option of choice of whether they want to apply for an appointment online. If they want to do so they would need to direct themselves to the passport portal where they can register and schedule an appointment by going to the website http://portal2.passport india.gov.in. After registering online, the applicant can go to their designated Post office passport Seva Kendra and complete a set of formalities which are the same as the ones at normal Passport Seva Kendras.
A certain press released has notified us that since the conception of POPSks in the central post region, Tamil Nadu going back to mere November 2020 they have been successful in serving large several applicants, 88,301 to be exact. To avoid crowding and smoother movement of processes the Department of Posts has insisted that the public should make use of the services that are available at certain post offices.
To further increase the number of Passport Seva Kendras, the Ministry of External Affairs along with the Department of Posts has taken it upon themselves to develop one PSK at one post office under every Lok Sabha constituency where a PSK is yet not there.
