She held close, a rose in hand
And bled from its thorns
Crimson tears that flowed about
With ever bitter scorn
The blood is sweet, she said
And bitter all the same
The pain is more gratifying, though
It keeps my demons tamed
A fleeting gleam in her eyes
A twinkle from her teeth
Smiling with her heart's demise
She called me bitter sweet
She caressed with her bloodied hand
Mine so pure, unstained
And left a haunting streak of red
That marked me calm and sane
She danced in beat with the rain
That lingered on her brow
And like dew trailing upon my skin
She stayed, she danced, she bowed
But even then she held the rose
With its thorns upon her hand
The flaming red of the blood and flower
Was her remedy's demand
Yes, I knew her once
Once upon a night
When the heavens opened for me
To receive me with delight
But I denied heaven's favor
And I remained still,
In the place my life had ended
I thought it my greatest will
I was nothing to the world then
But a wary shadow
Until she came and held out her hand
And brought me a good tomorrow
Her sweet silence traded noise
Her victorious defeat
Her last words, her sane sound
Acceptance and her seat
Then everyone thought her mad
A senseless mute in mind
Living without fear of hate
As fate would have us entwined
Crazy is a compliment
Sanity is a curse
She smiled as she finished, holding my hand
'Cause I've been through the very worst
She danced at the edge of rooftops
Laughed aloud in the rain
She's lived, she's dead, she's wandering
Yes, she was insane
The best of her was left in me
And mine a part of her
She's brought me out of misery
And called it her ever after
