Memories

"I told you to buy a new car, it doesn't work properly anymore. Now because of it we are going to get late."

Elly was still struggling to start the car.

"Chuck it, I am calling cab."

In few minutes the cab arrived and both left for their friends wedding.

They didn't talk much because of the cold war going on between them.

Elly tried to talk to him while they were in the cab, but because Sam was so pissed off with the whole car thing he didn't listen to what she had to say, And put on his earphones.

After the wedding the bride and the groom went for the first dance.

"Don't they look beautiful."

"Yes they do, indeed."

"So when are you guys planning to get married or you guys are still figuring it out."

Elly looked at Sam who was standing aloof from everyone sipping his champagne and than looked at the lady,

"Don't know.", Elly said, and before the lady could shoot aniother question Elly got up and left.

Now it's time for other beautiful couples and guests to join the stage, for the dance. The anchor announced.

A man, approached Sam and asked him to join for the dance, but seeing him alone he asked "don't you have a partner?"

Sam's eyes looked for Elly but she couldn't be found anywhere.

"I do", and went to look for her while others danced. After a lot of searching and laundering around he finally found her, beside the lake with a bottle of champagne, lost in her thoughts.

Elly often did this when she had to do a lot of thinking, And has to take major decisions in her life. She would isolate herself with a bottle of wine and do the thinking. Sam was taken a little back, when he found her like this because he knew something major was going on in her mind.

"Can I have some champagne?"

Without even looking at him and staring into the void, she handed him the bottle. And got up.

"Where are you going now?"

"To sell the car."

Sam was confused, of what was going on.

"What? Why?"

"Didn't you want it. You have been eating my head for so long for that. So finally I am going to sell it."

"Then what about the dance, it's our friends wedding."

"Oh yes! I totally forgot I already gave her my greetings and told her I am taking this bottle of champagne with me."

"What's happening, El?"

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. In what thought process you were lost. If it was about the morning incident, I am sorry. I have been just too much stressed lately."

Elly turned around and sat beside him,

"That is the reason I am going to sell that car.

But why, you love that car. And also we have so many memories attached to it. Our first kiss, our numerous road trips and what not."

"Yes, it does. But it does need a change also we cant go on  a road trip in that car, it won't be able to make it that far."

"What road trip?"

"Oh, yeah I forgot. We are going on a road trip."

"But where and how and out of the blue, why didn't you say anything."

"Damn one question at a time buddy. Can't you see I am little drunk."

"I know it all stupid. Even if you try to hide and don't tell me, I always get to know about it. You know that's my superpower I can see through people."

"Yes, And I hate that."

"Yeah you can hate it all you want because it is going to stay with you lifetime with me ofcourse."

"Yeah, wait, what? What did you just say? Lifetime? Wow that champagne must have hit your brain too hard that such words are coming out of you. Mind what you say, you might regret it later."

"I mean it Sam, I want it to be lifetime. I want us to be lifetime."

"Are you serious? Or you are messing around with me again.I am telling you I am going to get really pissed this time, I won't....."

Before he could finish his sentence Elly kissed him and said, "I mean it Sam, Marry me !......But first, let's dance."

"By all means, let's steal the show.", And that day became the dawn of new beginnings for both Elly and Sam. They still do fight and have their disagreements but at the end they always take the road trip and this time they don't attach their memories with the things but save it in their hearts.
