Miracles, The Power of the Web, Selfless Love and Acts of Kindness

Info

On Tuesday Kahu snuck out the front door. The search for her created this story. I received so many acts of kindness from so many people while I hunted for her.

A local constable was helpful and on the look out, a local Sheriff had me follow him back over his route as he had seen a large white dog. Workers on the street where on the look out for her, people on the bayou and roads.

I phoned the three Animal Shelters, no luck. If she wasn't in the dog pound or seen roaming the streets or bayou then she had to be with someone. With 18000 people living in our local area and well over 2 million people in Houston it seemed like a huge task to find her.

I used my spiritual practices that I have been taught over the years to stay calm and still within, link into spiritual guidance. Even though I had been told she was not there, I had an overwhelming intuition to go to Harris County Animal Shelter all the way across Houston.

So I drove the 1hr 15min to the Harris County Animal Shelter. I really don't like doing the drive across Houston, 6-8 lanes, thousands of cars and trucks, often bigger then my car. The animal shelter had just closed. The security guard was so kind after telling him how far I had driven, and quietly moved the cones so I could "just drive in to turn around". I managed to get in the door as someone left. I was yelled at that they were closed and told to leave; yet a very kind lady quickly showed me all the cages, ignoring the yelling staff member. Kahu was not there. Yet this drive was to be the very thing that was to bring about what seems like a wee miracle.

On returning, I hear the words "the power of the web" which has a number of different meanings. The Internet, and also the "field" "matrix" "web of oneness that we all live within". I searched the Internet and found community forums that I never knew existed. I posted on these about Kahu being lost. The next morning at 6.20am the doorbell rang. A man stood there with Kahu. He had seen the posting on the community site when he woke and brought her back. His wife had seen Kahu walking the street the day before and taken her in. She had taken her to the vet but they had not been able to read the French microchip.

While looking for Kahu, having left the Harris County Animal Shelter I had stopped at a petrol station (absolutely no idea where). There was an older looking woman in a wheel chair sitting outside holding a cup begging for money. She was a small woman. I had thought she was homeless. I gave her some money, and then she asked if I knew how to get hold of a hospital bed. "No idea sorry". But I stopped and talked with her. She needed the bed because her 80-year-old mother had been in hospital for 6 weeks having had various operations. The hospital would not let her mother leave the hospital unless she had a hospital bed at home for her. Her sister had been visiting the mother but was working, not well and now exhausted. This woman could not drive so was unable to get there and help them. She wanted her mother home. I gently asked if she wanted her mother home to look after as she was passing. "No!" she said, so adamantly. She wanted her mother home to nurse her back to health. She was so determined, adamant and authentic in her reaction. Yet she didn't seem so well herself and I wondered how she could manage that.

During the search on community forums looking for Kahu, I had found a listing for "HOSPITAL BED" Amazed at the synchronicity I searched back over this community forum and the others I had found to see if there was any other listings for hospital beds, none just this one only. Clearly not a normal posting. Judging by the response someone had already taken it. But I sent a message anyway asking if it was still available (this was Tuesday). Friday afternoon I received a reply saying it was available if I wanted it and also she could give me a commode, walker, shower bench, and safety brace. All near new.

It felt like a miracle was about to happen for this woman in a wheel chair and I felt such joy for her. I love a good miracle - they are so powerful. I have received a few since beginning my spiritual journey in 1992 so I was delighted to think that one was going to happen for her.

For all this, I was very conscious that this might not be the right thing to do for this woman. She obviously was struggling herself, in a wheel chair and also needing to beg for money. It was not for me to decide what is right for another person. So I tuned into my spiritual guidance, used the beautiful oracle cards that I use everyday. The card was "destiny". That was a big yes!

Yet also practically I did not know how to find this woman and did not want a garage full of hospital equipment for no reason. Someone's used commode in the garage, no thanks. I needed to find out if she really wanted it, or had I just been fed a line. I didn't think so but I needed to be sure before I answered the email and said yes to the equipment.

I had no way of finding her other then to drive back to the petrol station and I didn't even know where that was. I set off doing the horrendous drive again in peek hour Friday traffic. An hour and half later, a number of wrong turns actually caused me to stumble upon the petrol station.

She was not there of course. So I asked the cashier/owner if he knew her. Yes, he said gruffly, she is here a couple of mornings a week begging. I could come back in the morning. He sounded fed up with the outside begging. I told him how far I had driven and did not want to come back. I asked to leave her a note. He was very reluctant saying, they all spin all sorts of tall tales and not to believe her. But I had not come this far to be thawed by despondency. So pushed the point. He finally gave me a paper lunch bag and pen. A paper lunch bag... , that had me laughing inside. I wrote a note "To the woman in the wheelchair begging outside, I have a hospital bed if you want it, phone me on... ".

He cello-taped the note to his glass partition. It was all down to him, would he bother giving it to her next time he saw her. All down to one man who was fed up with homeless people begging outside his shop as he tried to make a living, and as a result was only seeing them as a nuisance and no longer as individuals and human beings.

She phoned on Saturday afternoon. Her name was Jo. She was so happy, excitement pouring down the phone. We arranged to meet on Sunday afternoon. I was to meet her at the petrol station, as her place was difficult to find she said. As it happened, the girls and I were to start our first volunteering for their Duke of Edinburg service requirement. Preparing and serving meals at the Star of Hope, a shelter for homeless woman and children just 15 min's from that area.

So finally I answered the email and arranged with the woman giving the bed away to pick it up Sunday. It was all set into motion. At that moment Sam came in with a beautiful large feather for me, a Great Horned Owl feather which had a special meaning for me. Natures intelligence communicates deeply and this was prefect confirmation that all was in order.

When we picked the bed up the next day, the woman was so lovely. I started to tell her the story of the woman the bed was going to, and spirit came in all around me moving me to tears. I understood then that it was the telling of the story that was important and linking their stories together. As a result of telling her about Jo and how it had come about, she then told me her story. Her father had just passed away and that he came from a third world country and a childhood of poverty. He moved to America and was a doctor here. He loved America and to help people, but hated the excess and indulgence of material things and the thoughtless waste that he found in this culture. She, in honour of her father did not want to give the near new electric hospital bed to a charity as they would just sell it, or to someone who could afford to buy one themselves. She had held out wanting it to go to someone who really needed it. I could feel the spirit of her father around us as she spoke. We spoke of how the bed would most likely be passed on to others in need for many years to come, helping so many along the way.

So the girls and I set off to find this woman in a wheel chair at a petrol station, many miles and hundreds of thousands of people away from us. All of us so delighted to be able to do this for her. Through the incredible generosity of this woman who willingly gave away all this for free. We had over $2000 US of near new equipment in the car to give to Jo.

Through heavy rain and closed roads we finally arrived but late. There she was seen moving her wheelchair across the petrol station court. She was with her sister and a niece. She gave me a huge huge hug. I said God must be really looking out for you, must really believe in you. I told her the story of how this had come about, the woman who gave it and the man whose bed it was. Her face just lit up like a 1000-watt lamp as she heard the story. It was such a sight to see. It also helped that I was telling her this in front of her sister and niece, it gave her certain kudos, a standing.

We followed them to the small trailer that the woman lived in next to her mother's house. Unloaded all the equipment and the super-duper all gadgets electric hospital bed into the house and then went to say goodbye. I said to Jo, who was hobbling around with great difficulty, that it might be challenging for her to look after her mother. With a passionate and fiercely adamant response she told me it was her greatest heartfelt wish to help her mother and nothing could be too hard. She then told me her story.

Last year Jo had been run over by a truck and left on the side of the road, her flash walker she loved smashed to pieces. The truck never stopped. After four months in hospital she had come home. Her mother had travelled to her house 4 to 5 times a day for many weeks at 79-years-old to look after her. Then she had given up her house and moved into the trailer in her mother's garden. This was her chance to repay her mother for all the care she had given Jo and she couldn't wait to do so.

Jo went on to tell us that in the 1979 she had been in a head on car crash that had broken most of her acim . After a whole year in hospital she had come home. The doctors had told she would never walk again. Also she would not be able to have children because of the extensive damage to her pelvis. Well she had pushed herself to walk, albeit with great difficulty and did have a child and is now a grandmother. She had had cancer 5 times and recovered each time and then had been hit by the truck. A lifetime of determination, a bubbly hope and a fierce spirit had kept her going. You could see it in her face as she spoke. Now she was going to use that fierce determination to care for her mother. In doing so she was righting the balance, tipping the karmic scales back into balance after all the years of care she had received. AND She had received a miracle from spirit to help her do it.

The girls asked if I had noticed the inside of the mother's house. It was full of framed photos of her family. A modest home rich in Love.

I stopped at the petrol station afterwards and went in to see the Indian man. I said, "I gave you the note for the woman in the wheelchair." He jumped in so quickly, "I gave it to her" as if it really mattered to him. "I know she phoned me and we have just delivered a hospital bed to her home for her mother. Now her mother can come out of hospital and come home. I came to thank you for giving her the note." Surprisingly he placed his hand on his heart and bent his head to me. I could see the spiritual light sparking there as he did so. He had been impacted by this miracle too. A note on a small paper lunch bag,.. still makes me laugh.

I was so glad that the girls got to share this experience with me as well; they too are impacted by being involved this seeming miracle for Jo. Also to see and hear the stories first hand of how hard life is for some people.

It is a story about a wee Miracle, Spirit and the Interconnected Web of Oneness (the field, the matrix - whatever you want to call it), Hope, Self-less Love, Compassion, Generosity, Shear Determination, and most importantly a Story of the Power of a Person's Story and how that makes everything more Magical.

A lovely man just passed away who hated excess and indulgence and wanted to help others, his heart based daughter with the same values honouring her father in a tangible way, and a woman in a wheel chair begging for money with a deep love and gratitude for her mother, a jaded man who had lost his compassion and perhaps found it again, many miles and hundreds of thousands of people apart, connected together via spirit and the web of oneness. Kahu sneaking out the door had brought all this together. My beautiful white wolf.

*An update, the lady who found Kahu a large white Berger Blanc Swiss just came to visit. Apparently she fell in love with Kahu and later on a visit to the animal shelter to donate some items she immediately saw a large white dog that looks very like Kahu. She is over the moon to now have this dog and came to show me. How beautiful the magic has gone full circle it seems. Bringing joy to everyone. For me, I get the sheer joy of sharing this story.

I hope this sparks an act of kindness somewhere somehow, and compassion for those less fortunate and awareness of the depth and power of another's story.
