Moonlight and You

It was late that night. Half an hour before midnight. The town deep in slumber as the night cradled it with a blanket of darkness. Only the sounds of the howling wind and dripping droplets of water from the old faucet could be heard and the snoring people deep asleep in their dream pipes. But, I could not hear those things except your humming voice.

I looked outside the open window and there it is, the moon as big as the ceramic bowl of my grandmother's. It was hanging just above the maple tree. I could see the reflection of the moon in your eyes as if they were memorizing the details of how the moon and the sky looked like that night.

You were singing and I was listening while watching your moonlit face. I could feel my heart fluttered every time you stroked my tangled hair. It was the smile on your face that resembles the spectacular glow of the moonlight.

"I love the moon," I told you.

You laughed and to my ears it was like the sound of ringing bells at the church of a Sunday morning. I sighed taking a glance to the clock resting on my bedside table. You pulled me closer and replied, "I know and I love you, too."

I wrapped my arms around your waist as I tried to fight the fear. Yes, I know today won't last forever. It was a love and yet it will not stay to wait for the sun to rise.

It was almost midnight. Half a minute and the clock hands would turn to the end this night with you. I know the night will end and so what is ours. Soon, the moon will disappear above and up in the sky. A tear dropped from my eyes. Your face started to fill with sadness.

"I'll come back for you." You promised me as the moonlight started to pull you away from me.

I closed my eyes to blinked the tears away and when I opened it you were gone. The rooster starts to croaked and the maple line starts to appear between the mountains and the skies.
