Motivation for Student Writers

As a student, it is our nature to be lazy and complain when our professors or teachers give us Homework, Activities, and Projects. What’s more, if your professor asked you to write a Horror Vignette, a Poem and a Story that requires 5 pages with the minimum of 2000 words?. It was really stressful for us students to think of a plot and look for inspiration since we don’t have many experiences in our lives.

Every student aims for high grades. For some, they want to have attention from their class, some want to let others know that they can do it also, and some students just want to be recognized. But what really motivates a student to do his/her task is a teacher who shows love and passion to his/her career. A teacher who shows appreciation to every work of his/her student. And a teacher who gives incentives to his/her students.

Our teacher made a deal with us, his students, that he will choose 10 students in the class who showed excellence with his/her work to be exempted for the upcoming tests. For us students, we really want to be in that 10 lucky winners so that, we will be exempted from the test because let’s all face the truth, the most unlikely moment in a students life is reviewing and sitting in a room while answering the paper that holds our future. Every student finds it awful to be reviewing all of the topics from different subjects so, if we had a chance to lessen our works, we would most likely grab the chance.

I remembered what our teacher said when he said that he will give exemptions to the students who excelled in his given task “I’m focusing on the students writing skills than his/her score on the test because that is why our subject is called Creative Writing.” And I would mean it, at first I thought writing Stories, Poems and Essays would be boring but if you would put your passion and focus on your goals, it will get easier and more enjoyable. Although it is hard to make your own story, everything will be worth it when someone tells positive comments about your work.
