New Movies on Amazon This Month

The release of new movies on streaming video services continues to grow at a rapid pace. As the Internet becomes more popular, people are spending more of their time on the World Wide Web. Because of this, movie release dates are often changing, with new movies hitting streaming services just days after they were released in theaters. In order to avoid being caught off guard with the new movie schedule, it's best to know what titles are available on the service ahead of time.

To make for an easier trip down the road when it comes to picking out movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video, it's best to understand the five main genres that Netflix and amazon prime customers can enjoy. These include action, comedy, drama, thriller, horror, and film noir. To help clear through the never-ending flow of streaming movies (and make sure you have the right streaming format selected), we have compiled a quick list of the top 7 movies on Amazon Prime Video in Apr/May 2021. From cult classics like The Dead Zone and action flicks like Kill Bill to modern favorites like Crazy Heart and The Fantastic Mr. Fox, see which ones we feel are worth your time. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it's a great place to start!

April showers us with a new movie format known as "trailers". These short clips, about as long as commercials, allow the trailer to give us a brief preview of what's in store for our favorite characters, before the actual full-length film arrives. Since trailers tend to last between twenty and forty seconds, we recommend using the Google search engine to find trailers for each film. Once you have a few choices, use the date and genre of your choice to narrow down the options.

One of the most successful alien movies in recent memory wasAlien, which debuted in theaters in March of 2021. As with many successful alien movies, the emphasis in this one was on the atmosphere, rather than on special effects. What makes Alien so special is that it's both set in an alien environment and an Earth setting, with its themes of mankind and other life on distant planets. The cast includes Kurt Russell, Ellen Burstyn, and Anne Hathaway, and the director is Ridley Scott. Expect Alien to receive mixed reviews, but it is easily forgivable considering the quality of movies being made now.

Another new genre that has just premiered is the Open Range series, which stars Jason Daddario and directed by Wes Ball. Open Range is the latest in a long line of movies about the Colorado landscape, and the great thing about these movies is that they don't try to reach a wide audience. Instead, the filmmakers select films that either have strong characters and/or provide a stunning visual experience. For instance, you'll love Open Range if you like movies about cowboys and Indians, or the Oregon Trail. Open Range is the director's debut, and it looks set to be a hit.

There are also two movies I'm going to discuss here, and they're both set in the Chicago area. First up is the Will Ferrell comedy The Night Before, which is currently playing in various theaters. Ferrell plays a high school senior who goes on a bar-hopping spree before his senior year begins, with disastrous results (including the death of his best friend). The other film in the series, The Night Before, may also receive an expansion of its theatrical run next year, and it's expected to be quite a success.

And let's not leave out The Edge of Men. In May of 2021, Matthew McConaughey stars as an NSA agent who goes undercover to work overseas for a top-secret NSA program. It's directed by none other than Clint Eastwood, and the movie itself is quite amazing. It starsosterone-filled bad boy Matt Damon, and Eastwood also just happens to have created the role of one of America's most wanted terrorists, Osama bin Laden. While no one's sure if The Edge of Men will catch on or not, if it does, it'll be a huge success.

That's it for this year's new movies on Amazon. There are still a handful of movies left, including the final chapter of The Hurt Locker, which I hope I'll get around to seeing by the end of the year. But for now, these are the movies I've been looking forward to. They're entertaining, intelligent, and just about everyone will find something to do at least once. And amazon provides them absolutely free.
