You must be considering what is the food to eat at Odette restaurant in Singapore. In just five years, that restaurant within the National Gallery has received numerous distinctions.
Michelin stars range from 0 to 3. Regrettably, pricing appeared to keep up with the honors. We'd almost given up hope of being able to eat there. Until recently, that is.
The National Art Gallery's Odette Singapore restaurant is located on the ground floor. It is located near the Cricket Club end of the National Gallery, in the former Supreme Court building. The majority of posh restaurants are located in large hotels.
It's refreshing to dine at a nice restaurant within an art museum. The Odette restaurant in Singapore's National Art Gallery was similar to The Modern in New York City, although on a lesser scale. Odette appears to be larger in pictures than she is in person.
The kitchen in the center appeared to be little, but it was bustling with activity. The staff-to-customer ratio at the restaurant is estimated to be around 1: 1. During our weekday lunch, the place was packed. Online reservations must be made a month in advance and must be secured with credit card information.
The rule was that everyone at the table had to order the same dish, as is customary these days. We were invited to lunch to commemorate a once-in-a-generation occurrence. To acquire the cue from the host, we lifted our eyes.
"The Indulgence menu seems delicious," she said. Our hearts were lit ablaze with fireworks celebrations. "We are pleased with either," we answered gently, "in fact, the T & M option would be more than sufficient," but not in a pushy manner. The host's point of view won out.
The Wine to Sip
"A supper without wine is like a day without sunshine," someone once said. A three-Michelin-star supper at Odette would be incomplete without some complementary wines to complement the three-star cuisine.
A wine matching option is available for $185++ per person. A second option is to select wines from Odette's extensive wine list. Two sample pages from the Odette wine menu are shown below. Glasses of wine start at $30, while bottles start at $150.
The third alternative is to take advantage of the Odette restaurant's "1-for-1" BYO offer. No corkage fee is levied if you order a bottle from the restaurant and bring another from home. That's exactly what we did. We had two bottles of wine that day: a bottle of white wine, 2018
Jonathan Didier Pabiot Prédilection (Pouilly-Fumé), bought from the restaurant for around $165, and a bottle of red wine, 2006 Château Haut-Brion, bought from home for around $165. Both were very pleasurable and matched the quality of the food. The Haut Brion is a first growth Bordeaux that had fully developed and was ready to drink.
Bread and Snacks
The beginning of these pricey set-course meals is usually our favorite portion. At Odette, they're sometimes referred to as amuse bouche, although they're more commonly referred to as snacks or "grignotages."
The finger food items were all delicious and unusual, especially the truffle mushroom soup. The bread selection, on the other hand, was rather limited.
First and Second Course
The first and second dishes focused on premium seafood. The first entrée consisted of two components: prawn tartare with mussel foam and caviar (top left) and sea urchin on toast (bottom right) (top right).
The lobster 'Alexandre Navarre' was the second course. We ran a Google search to learn more about the dish's moniker, and he looks to be a high-end blue lobster provider.
He appears to be the source of supply for even Les Amis. The first two courses appeared to be very opulent and were delicious. If only they were a little bigger!
Third and Fourth Course
The 3rd and 4th courses were as pleasing to the eye as they were to the palate. When these arrive, get your cameras ready.
The Rosemary Smoked Organic Egg is the trademark dish at Odette Singapore. She arrived in dramatic fashion, as befitting a true diva. Dry ice smoke and smoky rosemary leaves thrill the senses of sight and smell.
Each egg was served in a glass globe with a sprig of burning leaves on top. They not only taste excellent, but they also look and smell great.
A slice of kinki fish and a zucchini flower packed with prawns soaked in a seafood bouillabaisse sauce made the BBQ Kinki. It worked well together. My favorite part was the bouillabaisse, which tasted like a thick lobster bisque.
Kampot Pepper Crusted Pigeon was our meat course. This meal also had me look it up on Google to see what it meant. Kampot pepper is a variety of pepper planted and produced in Cambodia's Kampot Province, according to Wikipedia. We were each offered a slice of the breast and one drumstick from the two whole pigeons.
They were teeny-tiny flesh slivers. What little peppery flavor there was was probably washed out by the cherry sauce.
Following the pigeon, we were offered an optional round of cheese. A $38 extra is required for the cheese. Although the selection of cheese at Odette looked tempting, we declined in earnest this time (and succeeded).
Dessert
Our pricey 3-hour meal at Odette Singapore restaurant came to a lovely conclusion with dessert and some petite fours. Everything was excellent, with the exception of the service, which seemed more businesslike than welcoming. The service was satisfactory, but not at the same level as the cuisine.
