on disolving

you gave your eyes

to the street lamps

looking forward

for the next one

on the next street

on the next alley

you gave your hair

to the wind

submitting yourself

to bondage

to taming

to ropes

to rough hands

you gave your ears

to mothers

to wives

to listen

until your eardrums bleed

then it became numb

you gave your body

to men

to their eyes

to their hands

to their mouths

then you started

going home late,

when it's darker.

you cut

your hair shorter

and shorter.

the numbers

on the scale

go lower

and lower.

then you talk less

and less.

until silence

until

you cannot

remember who

you were

before
