Czech Chess Festival
The next Czech Chess Festival will be held in Prague from 7 to 17 June, 2022. It will feature a 10-player Masters round-robin event, as well as Challengers and Futures tournaments. Three world-class players have already committed to compete. The tournament is supported by the FIDE Aid Package.
Among the chess events at the festival are the Cesky Lev Kolesovice Open and the Czech Open. Both competitions feature a four-member team format. The teams compete in four-round games and are rated according to the current World Chess Federation standards. This tournament features a high-caliber field with 67 GM and 103 IM teams. A total of 1.117 participants from 75 nations entered the competition. GM Vladimir Potkin won the tournament. Other top players in the competition include GMs Vlasov Grischuk and Dreev. IMs Mikhail Sakaev and Brian Smith were the runners-up.
The Czech Chess Festival attracts a range of top players from around the world. The Futures Tournament is a highlight of the festival, as it features young hopefuls from seven countries. In the U18 Open category, Germany has the top players, while Poland has two representatives in the tournament: Pawel Sowinski and David Navara. Both of these players are ranked in the top three men's rankings.
