Poker betting structures

Also known as betting limits, betting structures utilized in poker substantially impact how the game such as poker 99 is played. They dictate the amount you will bet on, the rules, or raises at any given time; it means that they are a very important part to your poker game. That is why you will need to understand them before you embark on playing any form of poker.

In poker betting, there are five betting structures which are considered to be main, which include the following:

• Fixed limit

• Cap limit

• No limit

• Spread limit

• Pot limit

Fixed limit

All raises and bets are fixed in this particular structure. Generally, abbreviated as FL used to be the most common betting structure in most poker variations. It is still popular but has been overtaken by no limit as most players have made it the structure of choice. Just the way the name suggests, players are only allowed to raise or bet in fixed amounts when they are playing.

The betting size usually is two in this structure; the big bet and the small bet, with players being limited to the small bets during the initial betting rounds and the big bets during the later rounds in betting.

No limit - NL

It has a minimum size of raises and bets but with no upper limit. It has become prevalent with most poker players, mainly when playing Texas Hold’em, as many view it as more exciting than a fixed limit. It has some complex thinking involved because the players don’t have to think about deciding whether they should fold, raise, or bet. They also have to think about their sizes of the bet, as they are given flexibility in this area compared to the fixed limit.

Pot limit – PL

The size of the current pot limits the raises and bets. It is a betting structure that is complicated. It can be utilized for most of the game's variations, but it is common with the Omaha variation. The game’s pot limit relates to the blinds' size, just like in the no-limit structure.

The maximum amount you can raise or bet by is typically determined using the pot limit's current pot size. It is not simple, like just having to count the chips which are already in the pot. The pot might contain whatever bet which has been made on the current round, and you have to include the amount you will need to bet in order to be in a position to call any bet that you previously made.

Cap and spread limit

They are two structures of betting, which are less common as compared to the above three. But the chances are that you might come across them and thus, it is good that you get to understand them.

Spread limit

It is a compromise between the no limit and fixed limit structure because players raise and bets are limited by a certain maximum amount. You will have some flexibility because there is no fixed raise or bet amount.

Cap limit

It is played almost in the same way as no limit, with the only difference being that you will encounter a cap on the total amount of cash that each player will have to bet on a given a hand.
