Prayer Mats With Compasses - Are They Better Than the Others

For Muslims, a prayer mat is very important as it provides them with a clean place to pray for the five prayers that are mandatory for them daily. There are two different types of prayer mats with compasses available. The basic type has a simple compass in them which just points out the direction that you are facing with the mat. In order to use these mats, the individual has to know the general direction in which to face to achieve the correct position of the Kaa'ba. The other more technologically advanced form incorporates a compass that pin-points the actual direction by itself and the user therefore does not have to worry about knowing anything in advance. When these prayer mats are placed on the ground, the compass automatically determines the direction of the Kaa'ba and points that way, allowing the person to rotate the mat to face the exact location. These compasses are pre-programmed to point towards the house of Allah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

There are price differences between the two kinds of prayer mats, but people are willing to pay for the ease and convenience that they get. They can easily offer prayers any place they wish too knowing that the rate of error is none in terms of determining the correct direction. For most it is a wonderful invention, but at the same time, many find it just a waste of money, and still prefer to use their more traditional praying mats. So basically it is a matter of choice, but in my opinion, these compass prayer mats are a great way to remain worry free about offering prayers in the wrong direction.
