I do not know
Why you do
What you do
These cruelties....this violence.
I cannot reconcile
This dark haired man
With the tormented eyes
And a face like an angel
With a ruthless killer
Who murders his wives.
Husband,
There is in me
A fire to survive
And each night
As I feel Death draw closer
His footsteps echoing yours
Towards my chamber door,
The fire burns brighter.
I am no different
Than the ones that came
Before,
But listen well
And remember,
There shall be none after.
I do not know
Why you do
These deeds
How you can bear to
Look into innocent eyes
And hold fragile hands
And speak vows as old
And true, as time
Only to break them
In the most
Terrible of ways.
I do not know these things
But what I do know
Is I must survive
And I shall do what I can
To see the sunrise.
And if it's my hair
Black as the night
And studded with pearls
Or the way
My hands paint pictures
As they accompany
My words
My eyes
That catch and reflect
The flames
Like fireflies
Trapped in amber
My voice
Rhythmic and sensual
My mind
Sharp as your blade
My entire being
Designed
To trap and distract
And seduce
Until you forget
The feeling of blood
Staining your clothes
Until you forget
Their cries
Until you lose yourself
In the magic I spin.
I shall survive you,
Husband.
Your bloody legacy
Ends with me
I shall not rest
Until my life is my own
And I have
Your savage heart
In my possession,
Caged within my own.
