Role-playing games are a specific type of game that demands more attention to specifics than other genres. When the computerized version of the genre exploded, there were plenty of big-money companies that were eager to enter the field without even exploring the essential aspects of a role-playing game are. I'll say that I was thrilled when games for role-playing became computer-based because it allowed me to play my role without having to search for other players who share my interests and, even though some games have evolved into fantastic games for role playing but they're rare and infrequent. In this regard, of the different types of games that involve pencil and paper computerized games , and online games, there's only one that is able to meet the immersion requirements of a role-player and I'll tell you why in the future.

So, what are the essential elements of a successful role-playing game? I'll provide one at a moment, but the most crucial point to remember throughout this entire discussion is the concept of immersion. For a truly enjoyable role-playing game, it needs attracted the player's attention and not offer distractions which allow the participant to disappear into the realities of life. For gamers who play role-play the enjoyment of the game is derived from playing the player, not watching the cut-scenes like you were watching TV. What's the next... commercials?

Another aspect of a successful gaming experience is the awareness that you've been part of the world that you play in from the time you were born. This is, of course, the most bleak scenario, and there are a lot of games that permit only a limited amount of development, however there is only a few games that give you a genuine sense of progress.

A great game of role-playing should allow players to grow in any direction, and to make up for this by providing multiple routes through the game. It's not worth creating an electronic role-playing game when your character is doing the same thing every session in the game.
